The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just issued a document to relevant units in the aviation industry regarding continued prevention and response to storm No. 3 (storm Yagi ).

According to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and the Weather Warning Center (MWO): at 4:00 p.m. on September 6, 2024, the center of the storm was at about 19.9 degrees North latitude; 110.8 degrees East longitude, about 415km East of Quang Ninh . The strongest wind near the center of the storm is level 16 (184-201km/h), gusting above level 17. It is forecasted that in the next 3 hours, the storm will move in the West-Northwest direction at a speed of about 15-20km/h.

Airports expected to be affected include Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh), Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong), Noi Bai Airport (Hanoi), Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa); rain and thunderstorms are warned for Vinh Airport (Nghe An), Dien Bien Airport, Dong Hoi Airport ( Quang Binh ) and ready to respond when the storm develops abnormally.

According to forecast information, Typhoon Yagi has caused great damage and destruction when moving through Hainan Island, China. Typhoon Yagi continues to develop with the intensity of a super typhoon, moving in a West-Northwest direction at a slow speed, with the potential for great destruction.

To proactively respond to storm No. 3, ensure the safety of flights, people and property at airports, and minimize negative impacts on flight operations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires agencies and units to proactively monitor the developments of storm No. 3 with the highest spirit of disaster prevention and control. Heads and heads of agencies and units directly direct, urge and resolve related issues in the process of responding to storm No. 3.

In addition, based on the developments of storm No. 3, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has decided to extend the suspension of aircraft reception and operation at Noi Bai International Airport by 2 hours. Specifically, from 10:00 to 21:00 on September 7 (the old plan was from 10:00 to 19:00).

It is forecasted that after the storm, there will be heavy rain at Noi Bai International Airport, the density of aircraft operations will be high, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires airlines to direct flight crews to add more reserve fuel (for flights between 9:00 p.m. on September 7 and 2:00 a.m. on September 8) to prevent the case of having to wait and divert to an alternate airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority assigns aviation meteorological service providers to regularly monitor and update meteorological bulletins and forecast the time when airports can be put back into operation. In case the airport can be put back into operation early, the aviation meteorological agency must promptly report to the authority to adjust the airport's operating time accordingly.

The Civil Aviation Authority also assigned the General Director of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation to develop a flight management plan for Noi Bai International Airport after the storm, ensuring the harmony of flight operations based on the principle of prioritizing long-distance flights, international flights, and domestic flights. The Air Transport Department fully meets the take-off and landing times of the compensated flights due to the impact of storm No. 3.
