Previously, the price of durian today, May 23, was highest in the Southwest region and lowest in the Southeast and Central Highlands. The price at the garden will be lower by 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg depending on how the trader buys, buying in bulk or buying selectively.

Accordingly, Ri6 durian is at 71,000 - 85,000 VND/kg; Thai durian is at 90,000 - 98,000 VND/kg; Musangking durian is at 100,000 - 105,000 VND/kg.

In the Southwestern region, durian prices have slightly decreased today. The beautiful Ri6 durian variety is 68,000 - 70,000 VND and the Ri6 durian variety is 70,000 - 88,000 VND/kg; the beautiful Thai durian is 98,000 - 100,000 VND/kg; the Thai durian is 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region, the price of durian today fluctuated compared to yesterday. Specifically, Ri6 is 71,000 - 74,000 and Ri6 durian is purchased by traders at 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg; Thai durian is 95,000 - 98,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, Thai durian is 80,000 - 83,000 VND/kg.

Durian price forecast on May 24th tends to decrease slightly

In the Central Highlands, the price of beautiful Ri6 durian is at 65,000 - 68,000 VND/kg and Ri6 durian is at the price that traders buy at 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg; beautiful Thai durian is at 95,000 - 98,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, Thai durian is at 75,000 - 78,000 VND/kg.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in May, fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 665 million USD, up 10.3% compared to the previous month but only up 1.2% compared to the same period in 2023. This is the month with the second lowest growth rate since the beginning of the year (February growth was negative 11% compared to the same period in 2023 due to the long Lunar New Year holiday).

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), the main reason is the unusually hot weather that has affected the productivity and output of many types of fruit. In particular, the staple product of durian has been significantly affected in terms of output due to the hot weather, which has slowed down the export turnover of durian as well as vegetables and fruits in general in May.

Currently, the durian harvest in the West is at the end of the season and the provinces in the East and South of the Central Highlands are preparing for the peak harvest. It is forecasted that in the coming months, the export turnover of durian and vegetables may increase sharply again. The price of durian purchased at the garden has decreased, but due to better productivity, the income of growers is still guaranteed.
