Overview of B-class sedan market in September
The B-class sedan segment in Vietnam, with familiar names such as Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent and Honda City, used to occupy high positions in the overall sales rankings of the market. However, the trend of preferring high-chassis cars is gradually causing this segment to lose steam. However, the latest report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) shows that total sales in September reached 2,778 vehicles, recording growth compared to the previous month, mainly thanks to the improvement of most car models.

Mixed developments of key car models
September saw a surprising change in positions. Toyota Vios made a spectacular comeback, taking the lead with 1,292 cars sold, a sharp increase compared to 726 cars in August. Meanwhile, Honda City recorded a significant decrease, from 1,136 cars to only 475 cars, falling to second place.
Korean models showed a clear loss of momentum. Hyundai Accent, despite a slight increase to 406 units, is still far behind its Japanese rivals. Similarly, Kia Soluto sold only 18 units, a rather modest figure. Other models such as Mazda2 (432 units) and Mitsubishi Attrage (155 units) also recorded a slight increase in sales.
B-class sedan sales table in August and September
Car model | August sales (vehicles) | September sales (vehicles) |
---|---|---|
Toyota Vios | 726 | 1,292 |
Honda City | 1,136 | 475 |
Mazda2 | 399 | 432 |
Hyundai Accent | 332 | 406 |
Mitsubishi Attrage | 87 | 155 |
Kia Soluto | 11 | 18 |

Cumulative sales race for the first 9 months of the year
Since the beginning of the year, Toyota Vios has maintained its leading position with total sales of 8,496 vehicles. This is also the only sedan model in the list of 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam after 3 quarters. Honda City ranked second with 6,377 vehicles, while Hyundai Accent ranked behind with 5,035 vehicles. This gap shows the possibility that Honda City will surpass its Korean rival throughout 2025.
In the lower group, Mazda2 and Mitsubishi Attrage achieved sales of 3,664 and 1,313 cars respectively. Kia Soluto continued to face difficulties with only 215 cars sold after 9 months.

What future for cheap sedans?
The decline of models that were once 'sales kings' such as the Hyundai Accent and the erratic performance of the Honda City clearly reflects the changing tastes of Vietnamese consumers, who increasingly favor SUVs. The B-class sedan segment, once the top choice for first-time car buyers or service businesses, is facing a challenging future.
However, this segment is not completely out of date. The departure of Suzuki Ciaz from the market has been offset by the appearance of newcomer Skoda Slavia. The core competitive advantage of B-class sedans is still the accessible price. To stimulate demand, car manufacturers continuously launch large incentive programs. In October, Toyota Vios and Honda City were both supported with 100% of registration fees, equivalent to a reduction of 46-57 million VND. Hyundai Accent also received a cash discount of up to 50 million VND, while Mitsubishi Attrage also received incentives equivalent to 100% of registration fees. The price war will continue to be the key factor helping B-class sedans maintain their appeal in the coming time.
