On the evening of September 9, Singapore suffered a 1-4 defeat to Bangladesh in the final match of Group C of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers. The Southeast Asian representative disappointed when losing all three matches.
Going into the match, both U23 Singapore and U23 Bangladesh were eliminated after losing to U23 Vietnam and U23 Yemen in the first two matches, respectively. However, both teams were still determined to find a victory to leave the tournament with honor.
After a goalless first half, the game suddenly changed in the second half. U23 Bangladesh had an explosive first half when they scored 4 goals in a row. Fahamedul Islam opened the scoring in the 70th minute, and within the next 13 minutes, Al Amin, Ahmed Mohsin and Shekh Morsalin scored to put Bangladesh up 4-0.
U23 Singapore's efforts only helped them get an honorary goal in injury time, thanks to Khairin Nadim.
Previously, U23 Singapore lost to U23 Yemen 1-2 and lost to U23 Vietnam 0-1. They "shamefully" left the tournament without gaining any points, scoring 2 goals and conceding 7.
The 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers will feature 44 teams, divided into 11 groups. After the qualifying matches, the 11 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the finals in Saudi Arabia.
