Although three days have passed since the floodwaters caused this area to experience a historic flood, in Da Phuc commune ( Hanoi ) on the afternoon of October 11, many areas were still submerged in water on all sides, and many houses were still isolated.

On Provincial Road 269 (Huu Cau dike section, Da Phuc commune), the sunset spread across the sparkling flood water. Many sections of the road were still flooded, some were deeply flooded and flowing rapidly, making travel difficult.

The floodwaters were inundating the road, and her face still showed shock as she recalled the moment the floodwaters rushed in, submerging everything in an instant.

"It was around the afternoon of October 9th and 10th. I went to the chicken coop to tend the chickens and saw a flood rushing in from behind the house like a flash flood.

The flood came so fast that in about 10 minutes the entire chicken coop was submerged. There was no time to move because the railway line was broken so the flood rushed in. I ran out to tell my husband to take the chickens and run away, but it was too late, the flood came too fast" - Mrs. Long recounted.

In addition to 4,500 chickens from two chicken farms submerged by floodwaters, Ms. Long said that more than 100 tons of imported feed worth more than 100 million VND were also submerged by floodwaters.

"In addition, the estimated damage to chickens was more than 650 million VND and 2 tons of rice, and motorbikes were also submerged by the flood. In just a split second, everything was submerged. When trying to move the property to the front yard, the flood in front rushed into the yard, flooding everything, the whole house was like an island, lost everything" - Mrs. Long said tearfully.

On the afternoon of October 11, the house of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa (70 years old, Dong Bong village, Da Phuc commune) was still deeply flooded, the rice warehouse was more than half submerged, submerging all the furniture.

When asked about the moment the floodwaters came, Mrs. Hoa exclaimed: "It was so bitter."

"We should have been able to keep the Cau River dike, but the railway in Trung Gia commune was eroded, so the water rushed downstream, submerging everything.

That day, the water poured in so hard that my children were on their way to work and had to rush home to help me carry the rice to the second floor. I have lived here for 30 years and have never been flooded like this. It has only been flooded inside the dike. This is the first time we have been flooded this deeply outside the dike," Ms. Hoa added.

In addition, according to Ms. Hoa, flooding also submerged many of her family's vegetables and crops.

Talking with Hanoi Chairman Tran Sy Thanh during a working session to overcome the consequences of flooding on the afternoon of October 11, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Secretary of the Party Committee of Da Phuc commune - said that the water level rose very quickly in the recent flood.

"The water level kept rising, and only for a very short time. We had already built earth bags to cover the dike, and in a short time we were able to build 7.6km of dike, with some places being higher than 1m.

This year's flood in Da Phuc commune is unprecedented, both internal and external attacks. While we were focusing on flood prevention on Cau River, on the afternoon of October 9, a landslide occurred on the railway causing water from Cau River to flow into Cong River, from Cong River to Trung Gia and then to Da Phuc, causing many places to be deeply flooded because this is the lowest place," said Mr. Minh.

Faced with the above reality, Mr. Minh said that on the night of October 9, the Prime Minister and Hanoi leaders gave strong instructions to handle the incident.

Ha Thai Railway Company is actively repairing to completely overcome the erosion on the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen railway section through Trung Gia commune.
