Students be careful not to know they are... breaking the law

This can lead to students being disciplined at school, or more seriously, being administratively or even criminally handled by authorities.

On the afternoon of December 1, the Student Affairs Department and the Inspection and Legal Affairs Department of the University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City National University) jointly organized a workshop on "hot" issues that students need to be aware of.

Here, MSc. Ha Minh Ninh, head of the inspection and legal department, reporter, raised many legal issues that students sometimes unintentionally violate.

Many stories come from the real life of students.

For example, student A posted many articles, with pictures, with the content of "exposing" and bad-mouthing B - who had borrowed money from his family for a long time but had not paid - on his personal page and in some groups.

Mr. Ninh said this is a real case that the office has consulted.

When explained, the student realized that his behavior could be defaming the honor and dignity of others and could be subject to administrative or criminal sanctions.

At that time, students were advised to guide their families to seek help from legal agencies such as the police and courts instead of posting "debt collection" articles on social networks.

Within the school, according to Mr. Ninh, many students currently do not fully understand or even know the regulations on rewards, discipline as well as what students can and cannot do, especially in studying and taking exams. It is worth noting that these contents are often posted publicly and easily accessible on school websites.

Typically, many students take studying for others lightly. Some students may just want to help, but they study for their friends or lovers, even take exams for them. However, this behavior can be disciplined with levels ranging from reprimand to expulsion.

Teacher Ninh further explained that forced expulsion from school often occurs in cases of studying for someone else, taking exams for someone else, or doing projects for someone else in an organized manner.

Especially when money is involved, the possibility of being severely punished is very high. There have been cases in the past where students were disciplined at this highest level for studying and taking exams for others.

In another case, students who are good at information technology can find a way to get the grade file of the class, department, or school.

Whether shared in a small group or publicly, this is a violation that students are sometimes unaware of. Depending on the incident, students may be subject to varying degrees of disciplinary action.

"It is important for students to learn the laws and regulations of the school. When they need help or advice, they can go to the student affairs office, the inspection and legal department, the faculty office or the police station of the commune or ward," said Mr. Ninh.

The more technology, the more "face-to-face" students should be

Also in the workshop, MSc. Ha Minh Ninh shared many real cases of students falling into online scams such as losing money transferred to hacked Facebook accounts, investments, multi-level marketing...

In particular, with new technologies, many scammers fake video calls from authorities asking you to provide account information to appropriate property.

During the workshop, a student told the story of being scammed out of 5 million VND by the "fake police" trick.

Mr. Ninh gives advice to students that as technology develops more and more, they should "face-to-face" more and more, especially in important situations.

For example, when your Facebook friend or relative texts you to borrow money urgently, they may ask you to meet them in person. When researching a new job at a new company, you should go directly to...

"Direct testing will help you avoid many potential risks," said Mr. Ninh.
