Google, OpenAI popularize AI to Vietnamese students
On October 8, Google launched a one-year free Google AI Pro package promotion for Vietnamese students. This is the first time Google has applied a comprehensive AI promotion to a country in the Asia- Pacific region .

According to Google statistics, 92% of Vietnamese students are now using AI in their studies, mainly for exam preparation, essay writing, document synthesis and content creation. The free program gives learners access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, NotebookLM, Gemini Live and Veo 3, along with 2 TB of storage on Google Drive, Gmail and Photos.
A Google representative said the goal is to help Vietnamese students use Gemini as a “comprehensive learning assistant”; specifically, supporting research, writing, presentations and information management. Registration takes place online through SheerID verification and there are no fees for the first 12 months.
In parallel, Google also expanded the AI Plus and AI Pro packages for individual users in Vietnam, priced from VND 122,000 to VND 489,000/month. These packages provide access to the Deep Research tool, Gemini 2.5 Pro model and the ability to create videos with Veo 3, and integrate AI directly into Gmail, Docs and Sheets.
According to Decision Lab, Vietnam is in the top 10 countries using NotebookLM the most in the world , along with India and Japan. This shows that the young domestic user group is leading the region in the speed of receiving and innovating with AI.
Right after Google, OpenAI also announced the ChatGPT Go package - a popular option priced at 132,000 VND/month (including VAT), nearly four times lower than the international ChatGPT Plus package.
ChatGPT Go allows users to experience GPT-5 modeling, create images, upload files, and record conversations, with usage limits 10 times higher than the free version.
According to OpenAI, Vietnam is now among the top 5 Asian countries with the highest number of ChatGPT users, tripling in a year. The launch of the Go package is seen as a strategic move to expand the user base of young people, students and content creators.
Microsoft and competitors compete for the Vietnamese market
In parallel, Microsoft also accelerated with Copilot Pro AI package priced at 510,000 VND/month, allowing Vietnamese users to access GPT-5 model and DALL·E image creation tool in Microsoft Designer application. Copilot is integrated directly into Word, Excel and PowerPoint, helping to summarize documents, write content, and support data analysis.

In the advanced segment, platforms such as Perplexity and Claude have also launched Pro packages in Vietnam with a fee of about 530,000 VND/month, targeting users who need real-time lookup and extended reasoning capabilities.
However, not only foreign “giants”, domestic AI is also asserting its position. According to a report by Decision Lab, two Vietnamese AI platforms Hay and Kiki are in the top 10 most used AI tools in Vietnam, surpassing some international platforms such as Perplexity and Claude.
AI Hay was developed by Vietnamese engineers, combining social networking and generative AI, allowing users to both learn and entertain. The platform recorded one million uses on the first day of launching the university result prediction feature, thanks to its ability to understand Vietnamese naturally and respond according to the local cultural context.
Meanwhile, Kiki, Zalo AI's virtual assistant, is expanding its application on cars and smart home appliances, aiming for a close AI experience, serving the communication, control and information lookup needs of Vietnamese people.
According to experts, the advantage of Vietnamese AI lies in the ability to localize language and culture, making it more accessible to users than international platforms that are mainly trained in English. The ViGen project, a large-scale Vietnamese dataset that will soon be released, is expected to help improve the quality of domestic AI models and support education and scientific research in the country.
With the above race, Vietnam is becoming a key market in the AI globalization strategy, when Google, OpenAI, Microsoft and domestic startups all consider this a "laboratory" for young users.
From the low-cost ChatGPT Go, free Gemini for students to Copilot Pro integrated in Microsoft Office, AI products are getting closer to the daily lives of millions of Vietnamese people.
According to education experts, the popularization of AI creates great opportunities for education, productivity and innovation, but also poses urgent requirements for legal frameworks, security and technology ethics. However, this is also an opportunity for Vietnam to become one of the leading countries in forming a responsible digital society based on artificial intelligence.
