Exciting competition in the contest "I love my homeland's sea and islands" in Can Tho

With the participation of 100 outstanding students in the contest "I love my homeland's sea and islands" held in Vinh Chau commune (Can Tho), Thach Hoang Nam, a student of class 7A4, Lai Hoa Secondary - High School, excellently won the first prize.

Speaking at the "I love my homeland's sea and islands" contest held in Vinh Chau commune, Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, emphasized: "The contest is a useful playground for students to express their understanding and love for their homeland and country, especially for the sacred sea and islands. At the same time, it is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the role and strategic position of the sea and islands in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Through the contest, we hope to arouse in each student the pride and sense of responsibility of the young generation in protecting sovereignty and maintaining security and order at sea."

On October 3 and 4, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 coordinated with the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of Can Tho City Party Committee, the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City, and the Party Committees and People's Committees of localities to organize the program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" in Nhon My commune and the contest "I love the sea and islands of my homeland" in Vinh Chau commune.

The program was organized with many meaningful activities such as: Propagating and disseminating the law to more than 200 officials and people; distributing more than 1,000 leaflets, 200 propaganda handbooks, 150 law books, giving 500 national flags, 50 photos of Uncle Ho and 100 gifts (each worth 1 million VND) to policy families in the area.

The activities have contributed to raising people's awareness of the country's sovereignty over seas and islands and regulations related to the prevention and combat of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; at the same time, strengthening military-civilian solidarity, building a solid national defense posture and people's security posture at sea.

The highlight of the program was the “I love my homeland’s sea and islands” contest with the participation of 100 outstanding students in the area. The contest consisted of two rounds: The online round took place from September 17 to 21, attracting more than 10,300 entries; the live round was held enthusiastically at the hall of the People’s Committee of Vinh Chau commune.

Participating in the competition, the students were all excited, had reviewed for about 2 weeks and carefully prepared the knowledge they had learned, as well as learned more through books, newspapers, and social networks about the regulations of the law on seas and islands of Vietnam and internationally, knowledge about drug prevention, school violence, history of their hometown Can Tho ... to prepare best for the competition.

After exciting and thrilling competitions with close scores, at the end of the competition, Thach Hoang Nam, a student of class 7A4, Lai Hoa Secondary and High School, excellently won the first prize.

Also within the framework of the program, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command awarded 80 scholarships (each worth 1 million VND) to students in difficult circumstances, helping them on their path of study and advancement in life.
