Tam Ky opens Vietnam Book Festival and Reading Culture Day

Attending the opening ceremony were Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department Nguyen Thi Thu Lan; Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department Huynh Thi Thuy Dung; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Nguyen Cong Thanh; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu, Secretary of the Tam Ky City Party Committee Tran Nam Hung and a large number of people.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the City Book and Reading Culture Festival 2024, Acting Chairman of Tam Ky City People's Committee Nguyen Minh Nam said that reading has become a familiar activity, an intrinsic and essential need, a cultural beauty, helping to nurture and cultivate the soul and personality of people towards noble human values. All contribute to creating a cultural foundation, an endogenous strength to lead and promote national development and the prosperity of a nation.

In recent years, Tam Ky City has always paid attention to developing the reading movement, building a reading culture among all classes of people towards the goal of building a "Global Learning City" initiated by UNESCO. The city coordinates to organize annual book festivals and reading culture, exchanges with book authors, displays and exhibitions of books, newspapers, cultural publications at major events of the city,... Sectors and localities actively develop a reading culture in agencies, schools, and communities.

Thanks to that, the reading movement among the people has changed positively, reading rooms are equipped and supplemented with many new books. City libraries attract a large number of readers from many ages, school libraries have many innovative and creative activities, schools organize many rich and diverse experiential activities.

In particular, in 2023, the city will put into operation the "City Community Digital Library" - the first community digital library in the country. With a connected digital library and nearly 4,000 books in different fields and spaces for online reading and communication, this is a place to experience group activities...

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Minh Nam called on the government, business community and people to actively participate in developing the reading movement, aiming to build a sustainable learning society. Create a favorable reading environment, develop reading habits in families, communities, agencies, businesses and schools. Thereby contributing to building a spiritual and cultural life, strongly arousing the tradition of diligence and studiousness of Quang Nam.

In the coming time, Tam Ky will continue to invest in infrastructure, focusing on building community bookcases and community reading cultural spaces in cultural houses in villages and residential areas; promoting the development of family and village libraries. Renovating and upgrading school libraries associated with experiential learning, creative scientific discovery, innovating experiential and extracurricular activities on reading culture; organizing well reading and learning programs, building reading culture ambassadors for the city...

At the opening ceremony, authorized by Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department Nguyen Thi Thu Lan presented 130 books to the Tam Ky City Community Digital Library. These books are in the fields of personal skill development, foreign languages, education , culture, history, science, religion, books for children, pupils, students, etc.

With the theme "Books and the aspiration for development", Tam Ky City Book and Reading Culture Festival 2024 aims to spread the love of books to all classes of people, aiming to build and develop a reading culture in the city's community life.

The festival takes place from April 19 to 21 at 24/3 Square with activities such as displaying, exhibiting, introducing books and publications about the culture and people of Tam Ky, Quang region (with 22 booths); experiencing activities of the Community Digital Library; Youth contest to promote and introduce books towards the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory with the theme "Echoes of Dien Bien".
