New US House Speaker announces push for separate aid bill for Israel

Speaking to Fox News on October 29, new US House Speaker Mike Johnson said he would push a separate aid bill for Israel this week.

Mr. Johnson rejected President Joe Biden's proposal for a joint military aid package worth $106 billion for both Israel and Ukraine, including an additional $61.4 billion for Kiev; $143 billion for Israel and $9.2 billion for humanitarian relief in both countries.

According to Mr. Johnson, the Biden administration has not yet presented a specific plan and goals to achieve in Ukraine. Before assuming the role of Speaker of the House, Mr. Johnson voted against Ukraine aid and said that addressing domestic challenges should be the priority.

Contrary to the view of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the leader of the Republican Party in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, on October 30, called on lawmakers to approve the aid package for Ukraine. Mr. McConnell said that this is the time to act quickly and decisively to prevent loss of life.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is closely linked to the territorial interests of the parties. In recent decades, this contradiction has been one of the main sources of regional tension. In response to Hamas' surprise attack on October 7, Israel blockaded the Gaza Strip and launched airstrikes on the Palestinian coastal and inland areas, killing 7,000 Palestinians, including nearly 3,000 children.
