Chinese tennis player lost miserably in two badminton finals

Despite being present in both the men's and women's singles finals of the 2025 Denmark Open, China failed to win any.

The Denmark Open is the BWF's prestigious Super 750 badminton tournament, and China has brought its number one stars to the tournament.

As expected, China's two strongest tennis players, Shi Yuqi (world number 1 men's singles) and Wang Zhi Yi (world number 2 women's singles), both made it to the finals.

Shi Yuqi has a very good chance of winning the title as he will only have to face a Jonatan Christie who is past his prime. The Indonesian is currently ranked 6th in the world and has only reached the finals of 2 World Tour tournaments in 2025.

Shi Yuqi started the match very well, winning the first set 21-13. But then in the next two sets, he lost 15-21, and in the end, he suffered a 1-2 defeat.

One of the reasons for Shi’s defeat was his declining physical condition. The Chinese player had to go through two consecutive tough matches with very strong opponents, Popov (quarter-final) and Axelsen (semi-final). In both of these matches, Shi lost three sets, and fought for every point to win by a narrow margin.

Credit must also be given to Christie. The Indonesian played with great power to take advantage of his Chinese opponent's physical decline. The victory brought Christie his ninth World Tour major title.

Taking place before the men's singles final is the women's singles final between world No. 1 An Se Young and Wang Zhi Yi.

With the Korean player's devastating form, Wang's defeat was not too surprising. But the way she lost left Chinese fans humiliated.
