"Urgently request the school and rescue team to rescue 4 students of the University of Information Technology, on Viet Bac Street, Dong Quang Ward, Thai Nguyen .

All four of them are on the roof, 2km from the school, hungry and cold, but no rescue team has approached them yet," a cry for help posted on social media by four students on the night of October 7.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter this afternoon, Nguyen Thi Thom, a second-year student at the University of Science (part of Thai Nguyen University) said that the group of 4 students who called for help above rented a room in the same building as her.

Because the room had no attic, the water was so deep that the group had to climb onto the roof, hungry and cold. The entire city had a power outage, their phones were dead, and they had to ask someone to post a distress call, asking for urgent assistance.

"At around 9am today, the rescue team came to rescue the group of 4 students, and also provided lunch boxes for both me and the landlord. My rented room has a safe attic, the rescue team asked me to stay temporarily, because the boat was full," Thom said.

According to this female student, at around 12 noon on October 7, water started to flood the first floor of the boarding house. She and the landlord hurriedly moved their belongings to the attic. Only 4 hours later, water flooded half of the boarding house. The entire area had a power outage.

It is known that some families are very worried. For many hours, they have not been able to contact their children studying in Thai Nguyen because of the power outage and the children's phones have run out of battery.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Dang, Principal of the University of Science, said that according to a quick report, the school has nearly 600 students staying outside who were directly affected by this historic flood. Students staying outside the school can immediately contact the school for emergency support.

According to Principal Nguyen Van Dang, Thai Nguyen lost power all day, and the water level in Song Cau River was still rising, so the school used generators to help students charge their phones to stay in contact with teachers and family.

The school provides free accommodation and meals.

"Last night, Thai Nguyen experienced another sleepless night. The water rose so quickly that the property of the people and many families of staff and students of the University of Science was flooded or swept away, causing great damage.

The flood has now peaked and is more than 1 meter higher than the historical flood level. Many areas are deeply flooded and it may take until tonight or tomorrow morning for the water to recede.

Many friends and parents are worried because they cannot contact their relatives by phone due to power outages, weak signal or dead batteries.

Thai Nguyen University and some other schools were flooded, but the University of Water Sciences was just near the school gate. Therefore, students can move to school. There are full restrooms and the school provides free meals for students,” said Mr. Dang.

According to the school's principal, in the face of the storm and flood situation seriously affecting students' lives, the University of Science will support affected students in 3 phases.

In the immediate future, the school will provide temporary safe accommodation for students who do not have a place to stay. When the flood recedes, the school will assist in cleaning up and stabilizing their living and working conditions. The school will also provide financial support to students affected by storms and floods.

In addition to the University of Science, many other schools under Thai Nguyen University sent out notices of emergency support for students.

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy said that in case students and lecturers whose residences are flooded or at risk of being unsafe, if it is still safe to travel to school, they can temporarily stay at the school. The school will arrange temporary accommodation and living space.

“You can also go to the security room at the school gate to charge your phone,” said the announcement from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

On October 8, many students from the University of Industrial Technology (Thai Nguyen University) were present at heavily flooded areas to help people evacuate, clean up and give relief gifts.
