Hue City under the Central Government in the era of national growth

On the morning of November 30, in Hanoi , the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly passed the resolution to establish Hue city under the Central Government with a very high rate, marking an important turning point in the history of the ancient capital, opening a new page of development of the locality in the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise. The resolution takes effect from January 1, 2025.

Like many other people, Mr. Nguyen Anh Quan, in Phu Nhuan ward, woke up early in the morning to update the latest news on the National Assembly's voting results and was very moved when the wishes and efforts of the Party Committee and local government for many years have now become a reality, Hue city has become the sixth centrally-run city in Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen Duc Long, in Phuoc Vinh ward, besides being happy about the development of his hometown, also hopes that the new city will soon arrange and stabilize its operating apparatus according to the urban government model. Hue city needs to promote better the preservation of traditional heritage, preserve and shine an ancient capital of the nation, containing many cultural heritages that have been honored by UNESCO. At the same time, the new city also needs to move more strongly in economic and social development, associated with environmental protection, making a worthy contribution to the era of national development. The centrally-governed city of Hue will encompass the entire natural area and population of more than 1.2 million people of Thua Thien - Hue province. The new city will have 2 districts, 3 towns, and 4 districts. After the National Assembly issues the Resolution to establish the centrally-governed city of Hue, the city will conduct research and propose the organization of urban government, in accordance with the characteristics and nature of a national-level class I urban area. In the historical flow of the country, the centrally-governed city of Hue (Thua Thien - Hue province) has always held an important role and position, with a location in the middle of the country; a place with a rich history and culture formed and developed for nearly 720 years in the land of Thuan Hoa - Phu Xuan - Hue, containing the quintessence and symbolic values ​​of the intelligence and civilization of the Vietnamese people. This land was once the capital of the Tay Son Dynasty (1788 - 1801) and also the capital of the Nguyen Dynasty for 143 years (1802 - 1945). Hue City is one of the important cities of Vietnam, the only locality in Vietnam and Southeast Asia with 8 heritages recognized by UNESCO and is an official member of prestigious international heritage networks such as: Asian Cities Network, World Heritage Cities Organization, Alliance of Historic Cities... Currently, Hue City is also known by titles such as: "Vietnam's typical Festival City", "ASEAN Cultural City", "ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City", "ASEAN Clean Tourism City", "National Green City". According to the orientation in Resolution No. 54-NQ/TW of the 13th Politburo , the establishment of Hue city under the central government is the basis for organizing urban government, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of state management and improving the quality of life of the people; is an important premise to complete the goal "By 2030, Thua Thien - Hue will be one of the large, unique centers of the Southeast Asian region in culture, tourism and specialized healthcare; one of the major centers of the country in science and technology, multi-disciplinary, multi-field, high-quality education and training". The establishment of Hue city under the central government will have a comprehensive impact on economic, cultural, social development, state management, people's lives, national defense, security, foreign affairs and environment... The city's economic structure will have a positive impact, shifting towards industrialization, modernization, higher growth rate, especially in the industrial - construction and service - tourism sectors. The establishment of Hue city under the central government creates conditions to enhance the role and position of foreign affairs, take advantage of international resources to build a city worthy of being one of the large, unique centers of the country, Southeast Asia region in culture, tourism; multi-disciplinary, multi-field, high-quality education and training; science and technology; specialized medical center. Importantly, the first beneficiaries when Hue becomes a centrally-governed city will be the people, because the new city will be planned synchronously, aiming for a modern, civilized, convenient urban environment and a happy, livable city.
