The old Tang Long Bridge in Thu Duc City (HCMC) is in a state of serious disrepair, shaking violently every time a vehicle passes by. Recently, a piece of iron on the bridge surface fell into the canal, endangering pedestrians.
Located on La Xuan Oai Street in Truong Thanh Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, Tang Long Bridge across Trau Trau Canal is an important traffic piece, connecting thousands of vehicles from routes such as La Xuan Oai, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Vo Chi Cong... to and from the high-tech park.
However, Tang Long bridge is narrow, old and seriously degraded, so traffic on the road is limited. At many times of the day, this area experiences traffic congestion, with large and small vehicles having to jostle and inch their way through.
Previously, on December 12, 2024, a piece of iron on the bridge suddenly disappeared, causing a large hole in the bridge, making people moving across the bridge worried and scared. Although the authorities immediately fixed it to ensure traffic, people still feel very insecure when crossing this bridge.
According to Giao Thong Newspaper reporters, every time a car or motorbike passes by, the old Tang Long bridge shakes violently and makes a very loud noise. The iron plates on the bridge bounce up and down...
"I'm so scared, every time I pass by, my heart skips a beat, I'm afraid the iron pieces on the bridge will collapse. I just hope the new bridge will be completed so I can travel more conveniently and safely," said Ms. Minh Hang (living in Thu Duc City). Not only Ms. Hang, many residents and drivers who regularly travel on this route also expressed their hope that the new Tang Long bridge will be completed and put into use soon.
Located next to the old Tang Long bridge, the new bridge is being accelerated by the contractor. Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board, project investor) said that the new Tang Long bridge has a total length of nearly 680m, of which the bridge section is 231m long, 23m wide with 4 lanes and sidewalks.
The project also builds 560m of approach roads at both ends of the bridge according to the planned road boundary and residential roads on both sides of the bridge in Truong Thanh and Long Truong wards; builds a lighting system, plants trees, a drainage system, and organizes traffic according to the level of the project.
According to Mr. Phuc, the contractor is currently focusing on human and material resources, focusing on speeding up progress, ensuring the opening of Tang Long Bridge before Lunar New Year 2025 to serve the people.
In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2025, at the construction site of the Tang Long Bridge project, dozens of workers and machinery are working at full speed. The bridge has now been connected, and workers and machinery are constructing both ends of the bridge, railings, lighting systems, residential roads, etc. In the photo, workers are constructing railings at the bridge head and on the bridge body.
"Workers are working hard to quickly complete the bridge to serve people during the Lunar New Year. Once this bridge is completed, we will also return to our hometowns to celebrate Tet," said Huy, a worker on the Tang Long bridge.
The owner of a grocery store right at the foot of Tang Long Bridge was happy: There will soon be a new, spacious and convenient bridge, everyone is happy. Hopefully when the bridge is completed, business will be more stable.
The Tang Long Bridge construction project has a scale of 2.62 hectares, with a total investment of 741.1 billion VND, affecting 34 households. Of which, the construction cost is 688 billion VND, and the land acquisition cost is 53.1 billion VND. The project started construction at the end of 2017 but had to temporarily stop due to site clearance problems. By the end of October 2023, Thu Duc City People's Committee reclaimed the entire site and handed it over to the investor. It is known that after completing and opening the first unit to traffic, the Traffic Department will construct the remaining unit and strive to complete it in 2025.
