The force behind the puzzling results of "The Brother Who Overcame a Thousand Thorns"

The scores of the artists participating in the show "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" were decided by 350 viewers watching live at the studio.

"Brother Overcoming a Thousand Challenges" episode 1 has created an effect on digital platforms.

The show's appeal comes from its cast of famous male artists with many years of experience working in many fields.

The scores of the 33 male stars - known as talented - were decided by the audience in the studio. With the votes for each group and each individual, the live audience acted as the judges.

The 350 studio viewers have the power to decide who goes on and who goes home. And when their opinions differ from the general audience, the arguments are endless.

Previously, in music game shows in Vietnam such as "Music Game", "Vietnam Idol", "The Voice"... the audience could vote to increase a part of the score or save the contestant from returning to the show.

Votes are for reference only and account for a small percentage of an artist's scorecard.

However, when a group of audiences holds the power of "life and death" in their hands but has no expertise, artists will not be evaluated objectively and fairly.

So, right after episode 1, singer Do Hoang Hiep burst into tears when he received a score of 520 - the lowest in the team even though he had an explosive solo with the song "Drum". The inexplicably low score surprised the former member of Ngu Cung, and the audience was also upset.

A similar controversy also occurred with "Anh trai say hi" when the ranking of livestage 1 was arranged confusingly, not based on specific criteria.

"Anh trai say hi" gives the power to decide the ranking to the studio audience. Because there is no clear convention and it depends entirely on the live viewers, the performances are judged based on emotions, seemingly depending on artists with many fans like Issac, Song Luan, HIEUTHUHAI...

Therefore, viewers watching through digital platforms question the expertise and evaluation criteria of live viewers. Studio audiences tend to support artists with good reputations and familiarity with the public.

In 2023, "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves" received great attention but also encountered mixed opinions. Those were the performance "Hương ngọc lan" by Hong Nhung and My Linh's team receiving a record low score of 188 points; Dieu Nhi's team "Lon roi con khoc nhi" staged emotionally but finished last; Huyen Baby was highly appreciated by the audience but was eliminated because the show was recorded early....

Viewers believe that the studio audience's "taste" is for ballad performances, with familiar songs (with "Chi dep dap gio roe song") and famous faces with good reputations (with "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" and "Anh trai say hi").

Meanwhile, professional factors such as vocal and dance techniques are not highly valued or carefully considered. If so, artists with a large fan base can become invincible, regardless of whether they perform well or not.

The producer of "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" said the 350 studio audience members were of different genders and ages. They did not represent anyone or the general public.

Therefore, even if they get low scores or lose in the show, the producers hope that the talents understand that the scores are just the personal feelings of the audience in the studio at that time.

However, the votes will always be unknown, as the studio audience can only watch a 3-minute performance, and what they cannot see is the practice process, contributions and dedication of the artists behind the stage.
