On June 3, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly officially approved October 20 every year as World Statistics Day. In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate World Statistics Day every five years.

This year, the international statistical community celebrates World Statistics Day, not only as an occasion to honor the value of dedication, integrity and professionalism in statistical work, but also as an opportunity for governments and people to raise awareness of the important role of data and statistics in policy making.
At the rally, Director of the General Statistics Office Nguyen Thi Huong said that the theme of World Statistics Day 2025 is “Driving change through data and quality statistics for all”. This theme has strategic significance, especially in the context of the world approaching the 2030 milestone to assess the progress of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with 17 goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
The theme also affirms the commitment of national statistical systems to respond to new challenges and ensure no one is left behind in the global data era.
Over the years, the Vietnam Statistics sector has always participated and actively contributed to regional and global statistical activities, constantly striving and innovating to compile and provide timely and complete socio -economic statistical information, effectively serving the Party and State in formulating socio-economic development policies, management, direction and administration.
At the conference with the theme "Statistics for a sustainable future in the digital age - Vietnam's SDG monitoring journey" (SDG - sustainable development goals), delegates emphasized improving the quality of statistical work, promoting digital transformation and effectively exploiting data to serve socio-economic development.
