Green Voice 3 "brain hack" with the British Parliament format applied for the first time

The British Parliament competition format in the English Board of the Green Voices season 3 is considered an impressive innovation, helping contestants practice multidimensional thinking and discuss green topics in more depth.

“Different” and “globalized” are the impressions of Ms. Hyewon Rho – Executive Director of Debate For All, Head Coach of the Vietnamese team at the World High School Debate Championship and also the Professional Advisor of the Green Voice competition season 3.

Ms. Phan My Linh – Co-founder of Vietnam Debate Federation, Senior Technical Advisor of the “Green Voice” competition (left) and Ms. Hyewon Rho – Executive Director of Debate For All, Head Coach of the Vietnamese team at the World High School Debating Championship – WSDC (right) shared about the new points in this year’s Green Voice competition.

According to Ms. Hyewon Rho, if in other playgrounds, contestants often only research and develop personal ideas, then Green Voice creates opportunities for them to listen, debate and compare.

“The competition not only revolves around environmental issues, but also opens up space for students to engage in deeper dialogue and open their minds,” Ms. Hyewon Rho shared.

New format challenges students' thinking and courage

Following the success of the previous two seasons, Green Voice season 3 marks a new step forward when it first applies the British Parliamentary (BP) competition format to the English table. This new feature is expected to help the competition select excellent teams to enter the Competition Round, held directly at VinUni University.

According to MSc. Phan My Linh - co-founder of the Vietnam Debate Federation, the BP format requires contestants to build convincing arguments, prove why their team does better than their counterparts, and point out weaknesses in the opposing team's arguments.

“This multidimensional way of thinking is very “brain-hacking”, requiring you to be flexible, highly focused and constantly renew your approach to problems,” shared MSc. Phan My Linh.

According to the British Parliamentary competition format, each round will consist of 4 teams. Two teams from the same side support and two teams from the same side oppose an argument put forward by the Organizing Committee. This format requires even teams from the same side to present their own unique and convincing views, because they are not only competing with the opposition, but also with their own “allies”.

“The parallel competition format of four teams requires contestants to explore the topic from many different aspects through many creative perspectives,” Ms. Hyewon added. “This change helps contestants broaden their perspectives and discuss more diverse topics in the field of sustainable development and green future. For example, although in the first rounds the team submitted project ideas on green transportation, in the debate round they may also have to defend or debate the issues of green tourism, green education …”.

Premise for Green Voice to reach out internationally

The BP debate format also sets higher requirements because contestants must not only prove “my idea is good”, but also clarify “my idea is better than other ideas”. According to Ms. Hyewon Rho, this is the foundation of critical thinking.

Ms. Phan My Linh has high expectations for the quality of the contestants in season 3, and expressed her hope that Green Voice will be a playground for high school students nationwide to explore their potential.

MSc. Phan My Linh said that the BP competition format requires students to read widely, understand deeply and be interested in domestic and international issues. “The exam questions will not be announced in advance, so students must have a spirit of learning, curiosity and confidence to be ready to respond to any topic.”

According to MSc. Phan My Linh, applying BP is not only a professional step forward but also brings Green Voice into the international standard orbit, opening up opportunities to the big playground.

Ms. Hyewon Rho also expressed her hope that introducing the BP format into season 3 will be a stepping stone for Blue Voice to expand its scale throughout Asia and even further:

“I believe that we will not only witness excellent debate performances from Vietnamese students, but also be able to build the competition into a large enough platform to bring them closer to the international arena,” said Ms. Hyewon Rho.

The “Green Voice” debate contest is a project under the Green Education program, within the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education and Training and the Green Future Fund - Vingroup Corporation for the period 2023-2028. The contest is open to all high school students nationwide. After two seasons, the contest has attracted nearly 6,000 contestants from hundreds of high schools in 33/34 provinces and cities.

Entering season 3 in 2025, Green Voice has a prize value of up to nearly 18 billion VND.

Registration period: from September 15, 2025 to October 31, 2025.
