Saving 2% of electricity, more than 3,000 facilities reduce costs by more than 3,200 billion VND/year

The event is within the framework of the National Program on Energy Saving and Efficiency for the 2019 - 2030 period (VNEEP 3).

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Do Thi Minh Tram, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), said that 2025 is the mid-term milestone of the program. The goal is to save at least 7%-10% of the total national energy consumption by 2030.

Saving energy, especially electricity, is considered a practical solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce costs, protect the environment and ensure energy security. This is also one of the concrete steps to implement Vietnam's commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.

Notably, the National Assembly passed the Law amending and supplementing the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy (effective from January 1, 2026), creating a legal corridor to promote green technology and innovation in the energy sector.

Ms. Tram also emphasized the role of the media in raising awareness and changing energy usage behavior. The training course aims to equip reporters with skills, experience and approaches to energy topics in a close and easy-to-understand way, contributing to spreading accurate information to the community.

According to a survey by VNEEP 3, the industrial sector – which accounts for more than 50% of the country’s total energy consumption – still has a lot of room for savings. For more than 3,000 key energy-using establishments alone, if they reduce their electricity consumption by 2% each year, they can save about 1.6 billion kWh, equivalent to more than 3,200 billion VND.

From a professional perspective, Dr. Tran Ba Dung, former Head of the Professional Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association , believes that journalists need to become “technical information translators” – writing in a way that is easy to understand, easy to remember, easy to follow. Especially with sensitive topics such as electricity, load, peak hour prices, etc., it is necessary to present objectively, balancing benefits and challenges, avoiding sensationalism and causing misunderstandings.
