After more than a month since its global launch, the iPhone Air, the new model in the iPhone 17 series, is finally about to hit shelves in China, one of Apple's most important markets.

"I'm excited to announce that iPhone Air will be available next week and available starting this Friday, October 17," CEO Tim Cook wrote on his Weibo account.

Previously, when announcing the iPhone Air, Apple said that global users could pre-order from September 12. China was also on the initial launch list, but the iPhone Air was delayed due to problems related to mobile device management regulations. Specifically, the iPhone Air only supports eSIM, while the majority of Chinese users still prefer traditional SIMs.

Opening orders from October 17 and delivering iPhone Air from October 22 marks the return of the iPhone manufacturer after a long period of adjustment to meet requirements from domestic management agencies.

It is unclear how Chinese consumers will react to the eSIM-only iPhone. Many experts predict that Apple may have difficulties in the early stages because the eSIM support infrastructure in China is not yet widely available. However, launching the iPhone Air before the end-of-year shopping season is still considered an important step to help the company maintain its appeal in the world's largest smartphone market.

The timing of the launch is also strategic, as Apple can leverage early sales data to report on its next quarterly earnings call, scheduled for October 30.

Although the report only covers revenue through September 30, analysts predict Apple will face many questions regarding the reception of the new generation of iPhones in China, a market that has a large impact on the US technology giant's global revenue.

The arrival of the iPhone Air in China is expected to help Apple strengthen its position amid fierce competition with domestic brands such as Huawei and Xiaomi.
