'Vietnam team wins less because of the weather'

After the 1-0 victory over Nepal on the evening of October 14 at Thong Nhat Stadium, coach Kim Sang-sik said that the weather conditions and unfavorable pitch surface greatly affected the Vietnamese team's ability to score, preventing the team from creating the desired score gap.

Coach Kim Sang-sik regrets not being able to win big against Nepal.

“The weather conditions were not good and the pitch was bad, so the team could not show all the preparedness. I regret that the Vietnamese team did not score many goals, but the whole team won both matches, which is the joy we want to send to the fans. Despite the difficulties, this victory is still a success, completing the set goal,” coach Kim Sang-sik opened the press conference after the match.

Explaining more clearly about the quality of the pitch, Coach Kim said the team had prepared many attacks in the opponent's third of the field, but movement and finishing were significantly affected.

“Before the match, we practiced a lot of tactics related to finishing. The pitch is a factor that affects the match. However, the players still need to be more precise when standing in front of the goal. In the next training session, the players need to practice better, both collectively and individually,” he affirmed.

When asked why the team dominated but only won thanks to an own goal from the opponent, the Korean coach frankly shared: “This is our home field and we are better than our opponent in many aspects, but the players were a bit hasty and did not take advantage of the opportunity. Some players were exhausted and could not fully demonstrate the style of play that the team wanted.”

In this match, Mr. Kim attracted attention when giving the opportunity to start for many young U23 players such as Hieu Minh, Thanh Nhan and Trung Kien. “This is not a reward, but a recognition of their competitive ability. Young players help the team operate better. Hieu Minh performed well and was calm in defense. I also praised Dinh Bac and Van Khang when they entered the field in the second half,” said Coach Kim.

Referring to Tien Linh, the main striker who did not score in this match, coach Kim Sang-sik expressed sympathy. “He had a few good chances but could not score. I am sorry, and the player himself is also very sorry. However, Tien Linh worked well in front of the goal, promoting his strengths of running and finishing,” Mr. Kim still has faith in Tien Linh.
