President Macron reappoints Mr. Lecornu as French Prime Minister

According to The Guardian, President Macron on October 10 reappointed Mr. Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister of France, just a few days after Mr. Lecornu resigned and his new government collapsed.

Prime Minister Lecornu said he accepted the role "out of responsibility" and would do everything he could to help France pass its budget before the end of the year and address problems in people's daily lives.

“We must end the political crisis that is angering the French people and end the instability that is damaging the image and interests of France,” Mr. Lecornu added.

President Macron's unprecedented move to reappoint Mr Lecornu just days after formally accepting his resignation comes amid a deepening political crisis in France.

In President Macron's centrist Renaissance Party, MP Shannon Seban said Mr Lecornu's return was crucial to ensuring "stability" for France. Outgoing Education Minister Élisabeth Borne said Mr Lecornu could "build compromises for France".

However, opposition parties saw this as a sign that Mr Macron, who has 18 months left in his presidential term, refused to expand his government with other political views, reflecting divisions in parliament.
