Ho Chi Minh City: Prosecution of environmental pollution case related to Hon Nguu Aquarium project

The procedural decisions were issued after the verification and investigation process from the press's reflection on the article "Discovering a line of blatantly dumping construction waste to fill the sea in Vung Tau", related to the Hon Nguu Cable Car Station and Aquarium Service Cluster Project invested by Vung Tau Cable Car Tourism Joint Stock Company.

According to the initial investigation results, Dau The Anh, in his role as General Director, directly directed and approved the purchase and receipt of more than 15,062 tons of construction waste for illegal dumping and filling in an area of more than 4,400 m2 at the Hon Nguu Aquarium project area without permission from the competent authority. The use of this waste source does not ensure technical standards and is not approved in the environmental impact assessment report, causing serious impacts on the environment and marine ecosystem.

Two employees Nguyen Duy Quoc Hung and Trinh Ngoc Hiep were identified as having the role of assisting, participating in checking, counting input materials and commanding the project related to the above mentioned waste volume.

Based on collected documents and evidence, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department has temporarily detained two suspects, Dau The Anh and Nguyen Duy Quoc Hung, and at the same time applied the measure of prohibiting Trinh Ngoc Hiep from leaving his place of residence.

Currently, the case is being further investigated by the Economic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police, clarifying violations and handling them according to the law.
