Ho Chi Minh City merges universities, colleges and secondary schools

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee plans to merge and reorganize the apparatus of 35 universities, colleges, intermediate schools and centers in the city.

According to the draft plan to reorganize public service units in Ho Chi Minh City, at the university level, Saigon University will be reorganized, on the basis of merging with Ba Ria - Vung Tau Pedagogical College because the main training field is pedagogy. The name Saigon University will be kept the same.

Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and Thu Dau Mot University will remain as they are now. After the reorganization, all three schools will be financially autonomous, ensuring regular expenses.

For college training, Ho Chi Minh City currently has 19 schools, of which 14 schools are partially self-sufficient in regular expenses, including:

At the college level, there are 5 schools that remain the same, including: Vietnam - Singapore College, Vietnam - Korea Binh Duong College, Ba Ria - Vung Tau College of Technology, Thu Duc College of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City College of Architecture and Construction.

Colleges and intermediate schools in Ho Chi Minh City are expected to be rearranged according to the following plan:

Ho Chi Minh City plans to establish two colleges: SaigonTourist College of Tourism and Hotel (based on upgrading from SaigonTourist College of Tourism and Hotel), Ho Chi Minh City College of High-Tech Agriculture (based on merging two schools: Ho Chi Minh City College of Agricultural Technology, College of Agriculture and Forestry and Center for Vocational Education of High-Tech Agriculture).

41 continuing education and vocational education centers - continuing education centers of Ho Chi Minh City are expected to be converted into vocational high schools.

Thus, after the reorganization, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have 19 colleges and no more public secondary schools. Currently, the city has 20 secondary and vocational schools. According to the plan, public secondary schools will be merged into colleges or upgraded to colleges; Suleco Vocational Secondary School will be converted from public to private.

41 continuing education and vocational education centers - continuing education are also proposed to be converted into vocational high schools, operating under the model of high schools.

Kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools or public inter-level schools will remain as they are now.

The merger of universities, colleges and intermediate schools in Ho Chi Minh City aims to implement the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the rearrangement of public service units in the fields of education and health and the plan of the Government Steering Committee on the rearrangement of public service units, state-owned enterprises and organizations in the administrative system.

If this plan is approved, the arrangement and merger must be completed before November 30.
