Ho Chi Minh City summarizes 50 years of literature and arts

On October 18, at the Ho Chi Minh City Academy of Officials, a conference was held to summarize 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts after the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

The conference was directed by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; chaired by the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of the City Party Committee, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of the City, the City Youth Union and relevant departments and branches.

Ho Chi Minh City leaders and delegates attended the summary conference.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, said that over the past 50 years of construction and development, Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts have always played a pioneering role, accompanying the cause of building, protecting and developing the city. With the close leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the city government, literature and arts have continuously grown, affirming their position as a major cultural and artistic center of the country, contributing to spreading profound humanistic values, nurturing aspirations and fostering the unique cultural identity of the heroic city.

Right after the country's reunification (April 30, 1975), the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee paid special attention to directing and issuing many important policies and resolutions on cultural and artistic development, concretizing them into policies, mechanisms and resources suitable for each development stage of the city and the country.

The city focuses on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, especially intangible heritages recognized by UNESCO, through performance programs and teaching of folk arts.

The Ho Chi Minh City artists' group is growing stronger and stronger, currently having nearly 6,000 members, of which 26 have been awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize, 95 have been awarded the State Prize, and hundreds of artists have been awarded noble titles. The city always pays attention to implementing social security policies, taking care of the lives of artists, especially the elderly, those in difficult circumstances or those who have made many contributions. Along with that, reward mechanisms and encouragement of artistic creation are implemented synchronously, creating motivation for artists to contribute.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 97,000 people working in the field of culture and arts, nearly 17,670 cultural enterprises, contributing about 5.7% of GRDP annually. The city has 8 specialized schools, training more than 4,000 students each year, contributing to building a solid team of successors.

Cultural and artistic activities in Ho Chi Minh City are increasingly developing with many outstanding programs.

Over the past half century, the system of cultural institutions in Ho Chi Minh City has been continuously invested in, upgraded and gradually innovated in its methods of operation. Many large-scale cultural works have been formed, such as Tran Huu Trang Theater, Sen Hong Stage, Phu Tho Multi-purpose Circus, etc. Along with that, the system of museums, libraries, relics, and cultural heritages has been upgraded; grassroots cultural institutions have gradually improved the spiritual life of people in rural and suburban areas.

Besides the public system, Ho Chi Minh City also encourages socialization, creating conditions for private units to participate in building and operating cultural institutions, meeting the increasing enjoyment needs of the public...
