On October 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a conference to summarize 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City literature and arts after the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). Central and city leaders and many prominent artists attended, reviewing many achievements in Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts over the past half century.

Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary listens to artists
If he were the event organizer, Mr. Tran Luu Quang said he would record this as "a friendly meeting" between leaders, managers and artists of Ho Chi Minh City.
Here he met artists Kim Cuong and Thanh Loc, whom he had admired for a long time. He spent nearly an hour talking directly with the artists, responding to each artist's opinions. He praised the opinions of artists Thanh Loc, director Kim Phuong, Lam Vy Da... as very good.
Also at the conference, writer Tram Huong, People's Artist Le Thuy, People's Artist My Uyen, Mr. Huynh Anh Tuan - director of IDECAF stage... proposed to support artists in art fields such as literature, drama, and reformed opera.
Regarding literature, writers and poets receive inadequate royalties and cannot make a living from their profession. Artist Le Thuy hopes that the city's leaders will pay more attention to the reformed opera industry. Regarding theater, theater representatives request that the city support facilities, legal basis, and laws on performing arts.
Secretary Tran Luu Quang listened, took notes and responded to each artist's opinion. He discussed some opinions and acknowledged that there were good opinions but the city could not implement them in the near future.
In response to comments about how to promote quality literary and artistic works, he said bluntly: "If we write a book and print 2,000 copies to give to our brothers, it will be a no-go. We have to find a way to make it into audiobooks on the phone. Otherwise, we will fail, because that is the world trend."
He suggested that everyone should have a more innovative way of thinking and doing things. He mentioned the show Anh trai say hi, Tran Thanh's films or the films Mua do, Tu dao... as examples of cultural products that reach a wide audience.
He said: "Many young people have chosen Ho Chi Minh City as a place to start a business and many have been successful. This is a place where culture, people, and artists from all regions of the country converge. This is a valuable asset that needs to be preserved. The reason the City Party Secretary stood in dialogue with the artists is to hope to preserve that."

In the past 50 years, since 1975, Ho Chi Minh City has had many valuable works such as: People in the suburbs (author Minh Khoa), the memoir Homeland Tunnels by author Vien Phuong, the film script Wild Fields by author Nguyen Quang Sang, Poems to Fight the Enemy by poet Che Lan Vien; the song Spring in Ho Chi Minh City by author Xuan Hong; Unforgettable Song by Pham Minh Tuan; the statue of Uncle Ho with children by artist Diep Minh Chau...
To promote creativity and improve the quality of the artists, the city has organized many creative competitions and awards such as: Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Award; Award for creating and promoting literary, artistic and journalistic works on the theme "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style"; Ho Chi Minh City Creativity Award, creative campaigns associated with the celebration of major holidays...
There are also awards for children: Kim Dong Literature Award, City Children's Book Award, De Men Award; Pink Lotus Festival, Summer Children's Arts Festival, Rainbow of Childhood Program; Heroic City Youth...

Many art performances of international and domestic exchange and cooperation are organized on a large scale such as: Ho Chi Minh City - Gyeongju World Cultural Festival, Ho Do International Music Festival, River Festival, Ao Dai Festival...
The City Party Committee established a Steering Committee and developed a plan to promote propaganda and introduce literary and artistic works on the theme "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" for the 2021-2025 period.
On the occasion of half a century of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts, the conference summarizes achievements and typical works as well as recognizes limitations and causes.
From there, the conference proposed six directions, tasks and solutions to continue effectively implementing the Strategy for developing the cultural industry of Ho Chi Minh City for the 2020-2030 period, focusing on the 2025-2030 period, contributing to economic growth.
Rewarding units and individuals
At the conference, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City received the First Class Labor Medal awarded by the President for its outstanding achievements in advising and organizing festival activities and special events of the city, contributing to political, economic and social tasks, and improving people's lives.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also awarded certificates of merit and commended 51 units that have made important contributions to the development of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts, including Tuoi Tre newspaper and many organizations and professional associations. Dozens of artists, actors, singers, musicians... received certificates of merit from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for their positive contributions to the development of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts.
Singer Nguyen Phi Hung shared: "I respect and am grateful for the certificate of merit awarded by the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. The gift is a great motivation for me and other artists to be more enthusiastic in spreading good values, worthy of the trust and love."
