Winter-spring rice harvested later gives increased yield

Thanks to production on schedule, the 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop in Ham Thuan Bac district is now entering the peak harvest period. Currently, farmers in the district have completed harvesting more than 7,355 hectares, accounting for 91.2% of the sown area.

According to the assessment of the professional sector, the yield of winter-spring rice this year is stable compared to last year, reaching an average of approximately 63.5 quintals/ha. Notably, in the later harvested areas, the rice yield is 1-2 quintals/ha higher than the early harvested areas, in some localities it is 5 quintals/ha higher. For example, in Thuan Minh commune, the average yield at the beginning of the harvest season is about 65 quintals/ha, at the peak harvest time the yield is 70 quintals/ha; in Ham Phu commune, the yield at the beginning of the harvest season is 62 quintals/ha, currently the yield is 64 quintals/ha...

Favorable weather, few pests and diseases, and proactive irrigation are the reasons for the increase in rice productivity. In addition, farmers' boldness in introducing new rice varieties such as ST24, OM18, OM5451, Dai Thom 8 into cultivation, along with the application of scientific and technological advances in care, are also factors that improve rice productivity...

Currently, in some harvested areas, farmers are plowing, drying the soil, waiting for the district's crop schedule to sow the summer-autumn rice crop of 2024.
