At the end of the trading session, the price of Robusta coffee on the London floor on August 30, 2024 at 4:30 a.m. decreased by 4,383 - 4,901 tons. Specifically, the delivery period for November 2024 is 4,901 USD/ton (down 25 USD/ton); the delivery period for January 2025 is 4,692 USD/ton (down 25 USD/ton); the delivery period for March 2025 is 4,503 USD/ton (down 34 USD/ton) and the delivery period for March 2025 is 4,383 USD/ton (down 32 USD/ton).

Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor on the morning of August 30, 2024, red dominated, with a decrease of 8.85 - 8.95 cents/lb. Specifically, the delivery period for December 2024 was 247.60 cents/lb, down 3.45%; the delivery period for March 2025 was 245.20 cents/lb (down 3.46%); the delivery period for May 2025 was 242.80 cents/lb (down 3.50%) and the delivery period for July 2025 was 240.00 cents/lb, down 3.60%.

The price of Brazilian Arabica coffee on the morning of August 30, 2024 increased and decreased in opposite directions. Specifically, the delivery period for September 2024 was 266.55 USD/ton (down 12.13%); the delivery period for December 2024 was 301.25 USD/ton (up 0.53%); the delivery period for March 2025 was 301.00 USD/ton (up 0.43%) and the delivery period for May 2025 was 296.95 USD/ton (down 3.78%).

Robusta coffee traded on the ICE Futures Europe (London exchange) opens at 16:00 and closes at 00:30 (next day), Vietnam time.

Arabica coffee on the ICE Futures US floor (New York floor) opens at 16:15 and closes at 01:30 (next day), Vietnam time.

For Arabica coffee traded on the B3 Brazil exchange, it will be open from 19:00 – 02:35 (next day), Vietnam time.

Domestic coffee prices were updated at 4:30 a.m. on August 30, 2024 as follows: Today's domestic coffee market continued to increase by 400 VND/kg compared to the same time yesterday, ranging from 121,000 - 122,000. Currently, the average purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces is 121,600 VND/kg, the highest purchase price in Dak Nong province is 122,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, the coffee purchase price in Gia Lai province (Chu Prong) is 121,800 VND, in Pleiku and La Grai the same price is 121,700 VND/kg. In Kon Tum province the price is 121,800 VND/kg; In Dak Nong province the coffee is purchased at the highest price of 122,000 VND/kg.

The price of green coffee beans (coffee beans, fresh coffee beans) in Lam Dong province in districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha, coffee is purchased at 121,000 VND/kg.

Coffee prices today (August 30) in Dak Lak province; in Cu M'gar district, coffee is purchased at about 121,800 VND/kg, and in Ea H'leo district, Buon Ho town, it is purchased at 121,700 VND/kg.

Global coffee prices fell despite reports that excessive dryness in Brazil could cause coffee trees to flower early and reduce yields for the next Brazilian coffee crop. The flowering period for arabica coffee in Brazil begins in September. Maxar Technologies forecasts “mostly dry” conditions for the next two weeks in Brazil’s coffee growing regions.

Somar Meteorologia reported Monday that Brazil's Minas Gerais region received 0.6 mm of rain, or 8% of the historical average, last week.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quynh - Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV) said that since June 2024, the price movements of coffee and rubber in the country and the world have had special and remarkable fluctuations. Among them, the "out of sync" trend between the world and Vietnamese coffee prices must be mentioned.

According to MXV, Robusta coffee prices on the Intercontinental European Exchange (ICE-EU) have been at a high level for the past three months. Notably, Robusta coffee prices have set a new historical peak, up about 80% compared to the beginning of 2024 and nearly double the price recorded in the same period last year, at 2,500 USD/ton.

Domestically, the price of green coffee beans in the Central Highlands and the Southern provinces from June to now has remained at a high price range, ranging from 117,300 to 128,500 VND/kg. However, instead of establishing a new historical peak like the world coffee price, the price of Vietnamese coffee on August 22 stopped below the 120,000 VND/kg mark, which is nearly 11% to reach the old historical peak set at the end of April this year, at 134,400 VND/kg. However, with a price of nearly 120,000 VND/kg, the current domestic coffee price is still about 50,000 VND higher than at the beginning of the year and nearly double compared to the same period in 2023.

MVX experts predict that from now until the end of the third quarter of 2024, world and domestic coffee prices will continue to stay high due to weather concerns. In particular, the important price mark of 5,000 USD/ton may be broken when weather forecasters in Brazil warn that cold air will intensify down to the South of Brazil at the end of August and the risk of frost will still exist.

Domestically, coffee prices will remain high, but it will be difficult to surpass the 130,000 VND/kg mark, as well as return to the old historical peak. Domestic trade activities are quiet due to lack of stock. Therefore, we must wait at least until the end of the year when the new coffee crop is harvested, buying and selling activities are active again, and prices will have big fluctuations.
