Thanks to high prices, coffee trees are giving good profits. Accordingly, many farmers in the province are interested in planting new or replanting coffee trees, causing the area of this crop to increase rapidly again. Coffee trees are still the main crop in the province with the orientation of focusing on investing in quality and building the coffee brand of Dong Nai .
Coffee trees are returning to their golden age.
After many times of crop conversion, Mrs. Mai Thi Tuyet’s family, a farmer in Phu Vinh commune, has invested in replanting coffee trees on an area of over 1 hectare. Currently, Mrs. Tuyet’s family’s coffee garden is preparing for harvest.
Ms. Tuyet said: “In the past, my family had many years of experience growing coffee. The local soil and weather are very suitable for this crop to grow. Because coffee prices have fallen for many years, my family had to stop growing coffee and switch to other crops. In the past few years, coffee prices have continuously increased, so I decided to replant coffee trees. This year's harvest is forecast to have high yields and good quality fruit. With the current high market prices, coffee farmers expect a bumper crop in both productivity and profit.”
In the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam's coffee exports reached 1.2 million tons, earning 6.4 billion USD, up 8.7% in volume and 59% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Accordingly, since the beginning of the year, although the coffee market has fluctuated, the price of this commodity has remained high. It is forecasted that in the 2025 crop, coffee will still be sold at high prices, bringing good profits to farmers.
Mr. Ngo Thanh Thanh, a farmer in Bau Ham commune, chose to intercrop coffee trees in his banana garden. This year's harvest, his family's coffee garden of more than 3,000 trees has begun to bear fruit. Although it has just begun to bear fruit, Mr. Thanh still expects a good profit from the harvest thanks to the trees producing a lot of fruit and the selling price of coffee in
high level
According to Mr. Thanh, coffee used to be the main crop in the locality, but then the price of coffee dropped so farmers switched to growing bananas. In the past 2-3 years, coffee has continuously set records in selling prices, so many local farmers have replanted coffee trees. Compared to fruit trees, coffee costs less to invest in. After harvesting, farmers can store it and wait for a better price to sell, so there is less risk of price drops during peak seasons.
Creating added value for key crops through quality
Dong Nai has a long history of coffee cultivation, starting from the 1960s, because the land is suitable for this crop. After the merger, the total coffee growing area of the province reached more than 20 thousand hectares. In particular, the old Binh Phuoc province has formed many large-scale coffee-growing areas. In particular, the models of intercropping coffee in cashew gardens, fruit gardens, etc. are increasingly bringing high economic efficiency. Many farmers who replant coffee or renovate old coffee gardens choose new varieties with many advantages such as: quick harvest, high yield, good quality.
It is forecasted that in the coming time, the coffee growing area in the province will continue to increase due to the high growth rate of the coffee export market, causing this commodity to continuously set records in price. Coffee will continue to be the main crop that the provincial agricultural sector will focus on developing strongly in the coming period.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai province Le Thi Anh Tuyet commented: With a total area of over 20 thousand hectares, Dong Nai province is one of the localities with the largest coffee area in the country. The province also has the advantage of attracting many corporations and enterprises to invest in warehouses, factories for preliminary processing and deep processing of coffee for export. Therefore, Dong Nai has become one of the "coffee capitals" of the Southern region. Coffee continues to be the main crop that the province's agricultural sector is interested in investing and developing in the coming time. In particular, models of growing coffee in the direction of organic coffee, specialty coffee, and sustainable chains continue to be replicated to create added value for this crop through quality, contributing to building the brand for Dong Nai coffee.
