Air Force Regiment 917 started construction of the Martyrs Memorial House

On October 18, Helicopter Air Force Regiment 917 (Heroic Dong Thap Air Force Group, Air Force Division 370, Air Defense - Air Force Service) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Martyrs' Memorial House - a project with deep gratitude to generations of officers and soldiers who heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation and for the peace of the Fatherland's sky.

The entire cost of building the Memorial House was mobilized from voluntary contributions of officers, employees and soldiers in the unit; support from agencies, businesses, philanthropists and benefactors across the country; local people where the Regiment was stationed, along with financial support from the Air Defense - Air Force and Division 370.

Colonel Nguyen Huy Binh, Commander of the 917th Helicopter Regiment, along with leaders, officers and soldiers, offered incense to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh and heroic martyrs - those who devoted and sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the representative of the 917 Regiment commander affirmed: The construction of the Memorial House is not only the wish of the officers and soldiers in the unit, but also a project of great spiritual value, contributing to educating traditions, arousing pride and determination for generations following in the footsteps of their fathers and brothers.

The 917th Helicopter Regiment was established on May 21, 1975, and is currently stationed in Thoi An Dong Ward, Can Tho City. From a small squadron with 24 officers and soldiers at first, the Regiment has now fully developed its components according to regulations, with a team of highly qualified pilots, flight instructors, flight commanders and technicians, capable of completing all assigned tasks.

During more than half a century of fighting and building, the Regiment has exploited and used many types of aircraft such as CH-47, U-17, UH-1, Mi-8, Mi-24, Mi-17, Mi-171, Mi-172, and participated in many major campaigns such as sweeping Phun-ro in the Central Highlands, protecting the Southwest border and performing international missions in Cambodia. The Regiment has carried out more than 2,200 sorties, transported more than 72,000 officers and soldiers to the battlefield, welcomed more than 18,000 wounded soldiers back to the country, transported thousands of tons of weapons, food, and medicine, making an important contribution to the common victory of the nation and the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.
