Creating connecting spaces between the city's martyrs' cemeteries

Reporting at the inauguration ceremony, Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province Le Thi Thanh said that the project to renovate and upgrade the martyrs' graves of Hanoi city at Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery was started on March 21, 2025. The project to build a memorial stele to record the names of heroic martyrs of Hanoi city combined with a common ceremony space has the nature of creating a connecting space between the martyrs' graves of Hanoi city.

The project also renovates and repairs the symbol of the Memorial of Martyrs' Cemetery in Hanoi City (old) and Ha Tay Province (old) to overcome the deterioration of the structure; re-cover the tomb according to the common martyrs' tomb model agreed upon by the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province.

Along with that is the renovation, upgrading, and embellishment of the martyrs' cemetery in Hanoi city in a synchronous and comprehensive manner, creating a spacious, clean, beautiful landscape, commensurate with the meritorious, cultural, and spiritual works of the Capital.

The project has a total investment of more than 69 billion VND supported by the Hanoi city budget to Quang Tri province, including: Renovation of the old Memorial and Memorial Stele House in 2 areas (Hanoi area and old Ha Tay area); renovation of martyrs' graves (1,357 martyrs' graves); renovation of infrastructure, foundation, and surrounding walls of both areas, about 375m long.

At the same time, build a new Memorial House combined with the common ceremony space of the Hanoi city martyrs' cemetery (on an area of over 2,400m2 ), including: Build a new memorial house ( 190m2 ); renovate the green area connecting the two martyrs' cemetery areas of Ha Tay and Hanoi (on an area of over 2,400m2 ); expand the ceremony yard in front of the Memorial House (on an area of over 2,400m2 ); widen the road to the Ha Tay martyrs' cemetery (old) from 3.5m to 6.0m.

The project also renovated and built a flower garden of about 3,000-4,000 square meters on the side of the Ha Nam Ninh cemetery, including stream embankments to create landscape; renovated the martyrs' graves in the Binh - Tri - Thien martyrs' grave area (including 234 martyrs' graves of the three provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue).

The Hanoi martyrs' cemetery at the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery includes two main graves: the Hanoi martyrs' cemetery (old), including 469 graves, and the Ha Tay martyrs' cemetery (old), including 888 graves; in addition, there are martyrs' graves of Me Linh district located at the martyrs' cemetery of Vinh Phuc province and martyrs' graves of communes in Luong Son district, former Hoa Binh province.

Faced with the current state of deterioration of the project due to the harsh weather here, along with the fact that the project has not been renovated, repaired, or renovated synchronously and comprehensively, the City Department of Home Affairs (formerly the City Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) has proposed and reported to the City People's Committee and the Ministry of Home Affairs (formerly the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi martyrs' cemetery at the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery.

Comrade Le Thi Thanh said: The Memorial House project combines the common ceremony space of the Hanoi martyrs' cemetery with the architecture simulating the traditional Northern communal house roof, the symbols (logos) of the capital Hanoi hollowed out in the shape of Khue Van Cac. The arc-shaped walls around the memorial house create ceramic paintings with content about the Ha Tay silk homeland, connecting 3 ideas: Cai River, Red River, Ha Tay silk strip and Ba Vi mountain range so that the heroes can see the image of their homeland.

The Memorial House has no dividing walls, creating an open space in all four directions, with the idea of Hanoi for the whole country and the whole country towards Hanoi. The Memorial House and the stele record the names of 1,427 heroic martyrs of Hanoi city.

The completed project will be handed over to the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery Management Board (under the Center for Nursing for the Meritorious and the Management of the Quang Tri Province Martyrs' Cemetery of the Quang Tri Province Department of Home Affairs) for management. Every year, before July 27 (War Invalids and Martyrs' Day), the Hanoi Department of Home Affairs will carry out cleaning, painting, and maintenance of the project to ensure that it is always spacious and clean.

Currently, Hanoi city is managing over 80,000 files of martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the cause of national liberation and protection of the Fatherland. Many remains of heroic martyrs have been gathered in martyr cemeteries, but there are still remains whose identities have not been determined, lying in the mountains, forests, riverbeds, streams...

With infinite gratitude to the heroic martyrs, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi city have determined to renovate and upgrade the martyrs' cemetery of Hanoi city at Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, connecting the martyrs' cemetery of Hanoi (old) and Ha Tay (old) after 17 years of unification.

“This is not only a meaningful architectural work, but also a deep gratitude and appreciation from the Party Committee, government and people of the Capital to the outstanding children who heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people,” emphasized comrade Tran Sy Thanh.

Therefore, the renovation and upgrading project not only makes the graves of the heroic martyrs who are the sons of Hanoi more spacious, but also contributes to embellishing and preserving the solemnity and sacredness of the entire Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery; at the same time, affirming that the sacrifices of the heroic martyrs are priceless, a solid foundation for the independence, freedom and unification of the country.

The completion of the project is a practical act expressing deep gratitude for the sacrifices of heroic martyrs; thereby, promoting the role of martyr cemeteries as "red addresses" to educate traditions for the younger generation, fostering patriotism and responsibility to the country and being a meaningful milestone, demonstrating the sacred connection between generations.
