China’s first hydrogen-powered tourist train, “Qingchun” (Hydro Spring), officially launched in Changchun, Jilin Province, marking a major breakthrough in China’s clean energy rail transport technology.
According to a VNA reporter in China, the "Qingchun" train, developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., operates on a hydrogen engine system, does not need to be connected to the power grid, and only emits water during operation, meeting the criteria of "zero carbon emissions."
Designed as a green means of transport for modern urban areas, the train integrates an advanced hydrogen energy system, combining cultural and tourist elements typical of Changchun city.
In particular, the train is optimized to operate in the low temperature conditions typical of Northeast China, overcoming the challenge of hydrogen battery performance degradation in cold environments. The train can be customized from 1 to 6 cars, serving various purposes such as urban passenger transport or cultural tourism.
Mr. Uong Trung Hai - Deputy General Director and Chief Engineer of CRRC Changchun - said, "Khinh Xuan" converges 4 outstanding features: zero carbon emissions, smart - convenient, safe - reliable and connecting culture - tourism.
“Khinh Xuan” marks an important step forward in applying hydrogen energy to the railway transport sector, bringing this technology from the laboratory into practical application.
In the future, CRRC Changchun will continue to promote the development of clean energy products, such as hydrogen-powered urban trains and monorails, and expand cooperation with research institutes, universities and enterprises in Jilin to build a hydrogen industrial cluster, contributing to promoting local high-quality green recovery and growth./.
