Posthumously awarded the Medal of Courage to the Head of the grassroots security and order team

On October 20, in Thanh Cong commune, Thai Nguyen province, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Fatherland Front Committee held a ceremony to posthumously award the President's Medal of Courage to Mr. Phan Van Thanh (Head of the Security and Order Protection Team at the grassroots level, Xuan Ha 1 hamlet, Thanh Cong commune, Thai Nguyen province) who sacrificed his life while saving three children swept away by floodwaters.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the President, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To, Deputy Minister of Public Security, awarded the Medal of Courage to the relatives of Mr. Phan Van Thanh.

Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To shared the great loss and expressed his deep gratitude for the brave action of Mr. Phan Van Thanh, who sacrificed his life while saving three children swept away by floodwaters. The Senior Lieutenant General affirmed that this is a shining example of bravery, humanity and responsibility to "serve the people", a typical example of the noble qualities of the force participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level.

According to Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To, although it was only established for more than a year, the security and order protection force at the grassroots level has played a good role as the "extended arm" of the Commune-level Police, contributing to maintaining security, order and social safety. Mr. Phan Van Thanh's act of sacrifice not only spread the spirit of "when the people need us, when they are in trouble, we are there", but also continued the glorious tradition of the People's Police force and the heroic homeland of Thai Nguyen .

Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To suggested that Party committees and authorities at all levels continue to pay attention, create conditions, and have appropriate mechanisms and policies so that this force can better promote its role in ensuring security and order, for the peaceful life of the people.

On this occasion, the People's Police Comradeship Fund supported Mr. Phan Van Thanh's family with 20 million VND; Thai Nguyen Provincial Police donated a savings book of 500 million VND; Thai Nguyen Province supported 50 million VND. In particular, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Police Women's Union implemented the Godmother Program for Mr. Phan Van Thanh's two young children.

Previously, at 7:30 a.m. on October 1, when discovering 3 children being swept away by the water in Xuan Ha 1 hamlet, Mr. Phan Van Thanh and 2 people living nearby did not fear the danger, shouted and jumped into the water to save the 3 children. Because the water was deep, after bringing the 3 children to shore, Mr. Phan Van Thanh was exhausted and swept away by the water. It was not until 9:00 a.m. on the same day that his body was found.
