The Vietnam Road Administration has just sent a document to investors, BOT project enterprises, and the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) requesting to stop exempting road service fees for vehicles transporting relief goods due to the impact of storm No. 3 (storm Yagi ).
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 and promote the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and support, on September 13, the Administration proposed exempting road fees for vehicles transporting relief goods when passing through toll stations.
Exempting fees for vehicles transporting relief goods has created conditions for the rapid transport of relief goods to areas affected by storms and floods, helping people overcome damage, stabilize their lives and restore production, and has received the sympathy and support of people nationwide.
However, according to reports from some project enterprises, some vehicles have taken advantage of the free road service policy for vehicles transporting relief goods, not buying tickets when passing through the station, causing insecurity and disorder in traffic safety at toll stations.
These actions tarnish the noble image of charity work and make it difficult for project enterprises to collect road service fees.
Vietnam Road Administration said that up to now, the exemption of fees for vehicles transporting relief goods has basically met practical requirements.
To stabilize the organization of road service fee collection of project enterprises, the Department requests agencies and units to strictly control vehicles that are exempt from fees; coordinate with relevant agencies and units to handle subjects that take advantage of the free road service fee policy for vehicles transporting relief goods, causing insecurity, disorder and traffic safety at toll stations.
Investors, project enterprises, and VEC stop exempting road service fees for vehicles transporting relief goods when passing through toll stations from October 13.
