(People's life) - After 8 months, Ho Chi Minh City reduced 11 poor households (from 21,313 poor households to 21,302 households) and 2 near-poor households (from 18,068 near-poor households to 18,066 households).

The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported the results of implementing tasks in August and the first 8 months of 2023 and the direction for September 2023 in the fields of labor, meritorious people and society.

According to the report, at the beginning of 2023, the whole city had 39,381 poor and near-poor households with 155,764 people, accounting for 1.55% of the total number of households in the city. Of which, 21,313 poor households with 83,106 people, 18,068 near-poor households with 72,658 people.

As of August, the city had 39,368 poor and near-poor households with 155,683 people. Of which, 21,302 were poor households with 83,049 people, and 18,066 were near-poor households with 72,634 people.

The report shows that among the 22 district-level administrative units of Ho Chi Minh City, Can Gio district ranks first in terms of the number of poor people with 6,263 poor and near-poor households, accounting for 32.5% of the total number of households in the area (6,263 households/19,249 households).

The locality with the second largest number of poor and near-poor households is Cu Chi district with more than 4,800 households, accounting for 3.65% (4,823 households/131,982 households).

According to the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City is currently implementing a multidimensional poverty reduction program. This method has contributed to ensuring that people fully meet their requirements for education and training, health care, employment and social insurance, living conditions, access to information, etc.

Many localities in the city have promoted socialization, mobilized maximum resources of society and economic sectors to participate; at the same time, the city has also developed plans to effectively integrate poverty reduction programs with economic and social development target programs, especially closely linking the task of sustainable poverty reduction with the task of building new rural areas, implementing the "For the poor" campaign to make the activity truly become a patriotic emulation movement, attracting the participation of all city residents in the cause of poverty reduction.

Ho Chi Minh City's poverty criteria set includes 5 dimensions associated with 10 deprivation indicators.

Accordingly, a poor household is a household with 3 or more deprivation indicators or 2 income indicators (average income from 36 million VND/person/year or less and the ratio of dependents in the total population is greater than 50%).

Near-poor households are households with two deprivation indicators and an average income per capita of over 36 million VND to 46 million VND/person/year.

Meanwhile, the national poverty line in the 2022-2025 period in rural areas is from 18 million VND/person/year or less, in urban areas is from 24 million VND/person/year or less.
