U17 Vietnam has a great chance to attend FIFA U17 World Cup 2025

Vietnam U17 will qualify for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship as one of the five best second-placed teams in the qualifying round. Coach Cristiano Roland and his team have a great chance to qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup for the first time in history.

In March 2024, the World Football Federation made two major changes when increasing the number of teams participating in the FIFA U17 World Cup to 48 teams. In addition, this tournament will be held annually instead of every two years. After that, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed that the top 8 teams in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship will be able to participate in the World Cup. The U17 Asian Cup has 16 participating teams including host Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Afghanistan, South Korea, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Australia, UAE, Yemen, Tajikistan, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Oman, and Iraq.

The 16 teams are divided into 4 groups of 4 teams each and play a round robin to find the 1st and 2nd teams in each group to enter the quarter-finals. The 8 teams that enter the quarter-finals automatically qualify for the 2025 U17 World Cup. In fact, if they are lucky in the draw for the U17 Asian Cup, it is not impossible for U17 Vietnam to pass the group stage.

Under the guidance of coach Cristiano Roland, U17 Vietnam has significantly improved its defensive quality. Viet Anh and his teammates have only conceded 1 goal in the last 3 matches. In the friendly tournament CFA Team China 2024, U16 Vietnam beat both Japan and Uzbekistan. The Brazilian coach will soon start preparing for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship.
