Australia wins Southeast Asian women's championship with U23 team

The final match of the Southeast Asian women's football on the evening of August 19 was a reunion between two teams in Group B. On the opening day of the tournament on August 7, Australia lost 1-2 to Myanmar. That was the first shock of the tournament.

However, that match was actually a test for coach Joseph Palatsides. Because he changed 10/11 positions in the second match and grasped the personnel for the journey to the final match in Hai Phong on the evening of August 19.

In the final, Australia changed 9/11 positions compared to the loss to Myanmar. The energetic lineup created a completely different situation compared to the opening match. Australia pressed the field and took the initiative completely.

The Australians hit the crossbar of goalkeeper Myo Mya Mya Nyein twice. The goal came as a worthy reward in the 66th minute. Furphy cut in from close range to open the scoring.

After this goal, the Myanmar women's team changed their position to focus all their energy on attacking. The Australian women's team also focused on defending to preserve the fragile score. They were superior in every aspect compared to the Myanmar girls.

Captain Win Theingi Tun admitted after the match: "The victory was deserved for Australia. They were stronger and fitter, although Myanmar also played very well to protect their goal and find the equalizer."

A well-deserved championship for U23 Australia. This is the second time Australia has won the AFF Women's Championship, but the first time with the U23 team. Previously, they participated with the first team (2008) and the Australian U20 team.

In the third-place match, the Vietnamese women's team won 3-1 against Thailand. Huynh Nhu scored her first goal in 2 years, helping coach Mai Duc Chung and his team avoid leaving the tournament empty-handed at home.
