Quynh Nhai this season is covered by the deep green of the mountains and forests and the immense lake. Looking out from Pa Uon bridge, the Da River appears peaceful, sometimes flowing slowly, sometimes sparkling silver in the sunlight, both majestic and poetic. In that space, people seem to blend into nature, feel relaxed and love the wild, lyrical beauty of Quynh Nhai even more.
Realizing the potential and advantages of the locality, in the 2020 - 2025 term, the Party Committee of Quynh Nhai district, term XXI, has chosen developing lake tourism as one of the three breakthroughs. The district has issued the "Project for developing the tourism industry of Quynh Nhai district in the period of 2020 - 2025", focusing on mobilizing resources to build infrastructure, open inter-district and inter-provincial connecting routes; at the same time, calling on businesses, organizations and individuals to invest in tourist routes and destinations. The implementation of the project is associated with Conclusion No. 94-KL/TU dated January 23, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee on developing Son La tourism to 2025, with a vision to 2030.

To create a highlight for tourism, the district maintains and restores many unique cultural products to serve tourists, such as the "Kin Pang Then" Festival of the White Thai people, the Hair Washing Festival... At the same time, digital transformation is promoted, and promotional activities are organized to promote tourism potential and strengths. In this series of activities, the annual Culture, Sports and Tourism Week is identified as the key event. Up to now, Quynh Nhai has formed 9 typical tourist destinations: the district's Cultural - Spiritual Tourism Area; Heart Island; Pa Uon Ecolakes ecological area; Binh Yen Bay; Uy Phong Bay; Da Giang Island; Pu Dan Island; floating restaurant on the bay; Bon village community tourism site (Muong Chien commune) associated with the identity of the White Thai people. During the 2020 - 2025 term, the district has attracted 5 construction investment projects with a total capital of 162 billion VND; mobilized 15 billion VND from social resources to build 3 spiritual and cultural works; welcomed more than 1.2 million visitors, including more than 2,600 international visitors, bringing in revenue of about 600 billion VND.
Exploiting the potential of the reservoir area, many enterprises and cooperatives have built eco-tourism products. Mr. Dang Quang Giau, Director of Quynh Nhai Eco-tourism Cooperative, shared: The Cooperative has invested in 3 2-storey tourist boats, with a capacity of 40-120 passengers/boat. In addition to exploiting Trai Tim Island, with culinary services, sightseeing, relaxation, water volleyball, fishing... The Cooperative also cooperates to build a tourist route on the Son La hydroelectric reservoir, welcoming more than 200 visitors each month, creating regular jobs for 14 local workers, with an income of 8.5 to 13 million VND/person/month. In addition, on holidays and Tet, when the number of tourists increases, the Cooperative also recruits 10 to 15 seasonal workers to ensure effective business operations.

The large lake surface in Quynh Nhai has brought potential for tourism development, while creating conditions for people to develop cage fish farming. Currently, communes in the old Quynh Nhai district have more than 4,500 fish cages, mainly raising species such as grass carp, common carp, catfish, catfish, monosex tilapia... This aquaculture profession not only solves the shortage of production land but also contributes to shifting the agricultural structure. On average, each 35 m² fish cage harvests about 300 kg of fish/year. With a selling price of 80,000 - 100,000 VND/kg, each cage earns about 30 million VND. In addition to selling fresh fish, people also process many rich products such as fish cakes, fish sausages, fish floss, deboned fish, dried fish... In particular, Da River fish cakes and frozen Da River fish have met 3-star OCOP standards.

Implementing the two-level local government model, 11 communes of Quynh Nhai district (old) were rearranged into 4 communes including: Quynh Nhai commune (Chieng Khoang, Chieng Bang, Chieng On and Muong Giang town); Muong Sai commune (Muong Sai and Nam Et); Muong Gion commune (Muong Gion, Pa Ma Pha Khinh); Muong Chien commune (Muong Chien, Chieng Khay and Ca Nang). After the rearrangement, the communes successfully organized the first Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030. Based on reviewing and evaluating the potential and strengths of the locality, most communes have selected and proposed breakthroughs to exploit the potential and advantages in economic development. That is, developing lake tourism, associated with building experiential tourism routes; Developing lake tourism associated with traditional festivals, creating unique tourism products, attracting domestic and international tourists.
The naming of the new Quynh Nhai commune aims to inherit and promote the revolutionary tradition and cultural values of the ethnic groups of Quynh Nhai district in the past. With the desire to innovate and build Quynh Nhai commune to develop rapidly and sustainably as one of the development centers of the Son La hydroelectric reservoir area in the new period, the first Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, Quynh Nhai commune has proposed a breakthrough: Focus on completing the planning, completing the tourism infrastructure to make Quynh Nhai commune an attractive destination for Son La tourism; strive to make the Son La hydroelectric reservoir tourism area in Quynh Nhai become a provincial-level tourist area by 2030.

Mr. Dinh Trung Dung, Secretary of the Quynh Nhai Commune Party Committee, said: Inheriting the achievements of the previous term, the commune continues to survey and adjust the tourism planning to suit the reality. Focus on developing types such as community tourism, eco-tourism, adventure tourism, experiential tourism associated with the Son La hydroelectric reservoir area; at the same time, attracting investment in building a spiritual and cultural tourism area. The goal is to welcome about 300,000 visitors each year, with revenue reaching 150 billion VND. At the same time, effectively implement the Provincial People's Committee's Project on the orientation of developing tourism in the Son La hydroelectric reservoir area to become a national tourist area.
With high political determination and innovation, the communes along the Son La hydroelectric reservoir have maximized their potential and advantages in terms of nature, culture and people. This is also an important direction, opening up opportunities for sustainable economic development, contributing to improving people's lives and affirming the province's position as an attractive tourist destination.
