Why doesn't Apple let iPhone record calls?

For years, iPhone users have been complaining about not being able to record calls on their smartphones. No matter how many times you dig through the Settings, it’s a waste of time, because Apple intentionally doesn’t support a feature that many people are looking for.

It is not only people who have to make many important phone calls or interviews, but sometimes it is just users with normal needs, rarely needing the recording feature to avoid missing important details in a conversation. In recent iOS versions, Apple has added a very convenient Screen Recording feature. But unfortunately, even if you can record other apps normally, the content of the call is always out of the company's concern.

Why does Apple insist on not allowing users to record audio on iPhone?

The answer is actually quite simple: Unlike Android, which is open source, iOS is under the complete control and responsibility of Apple, so the operating system and the company are subject to many regulatory restrictions. In many states in the US and some parts of the world , recording calls is illegal, and the number of iPhone users is so large that controlling such a feature is out of reach for Apple.

To save some headaches, Apple opted for the simpler option of not supporting the feature at all. “While recording phone conversations isn’t illegal in every state, Apple wants to make sure people are always in compliance by not automatically adding this feature to their smartphones,” said Burton Kelso, a technology expert at Integral Computer Service, a computer repair company. “In addition, Apple wants to ensure users’ privacy when using smartphones.”

In addition to not having a built-in call recording feature, Apple also doesn't allow apps to directly access the microphone and the Phone app, so it can be difficult to get around that limitation, but there are ways to "get around the rules."

How to record calls on iPhone simply?

Although some apps advertise that they have the ability to record calls on iPhone, since Apple does not allow third parties to access the microphone, the trick these apps use is to use a server to join the conference call and record it. This method will not guarantee your security, and all the apps require payment, so in reality this is not a good solution.

The simplest way today is still to record "traditionally" with another device.

The only way currently that is both free, easy to use and more convenient is to record "traditionally" with a second device. Specifically, you just need to turn on the iPhone speaker, find a quiet area, make a call and record the whole thing with another device. On MacBook or iPhone, there is native recording software called Voice Memos (Record if you switch the device to Vietnamese). On Windows, you can use the Windows Sound Recorder application.
