At the meeting, the two sides had an in-depth discussion on the Vietnam-Holy See relationship and the current situation of the Catholic Church in Vietnam. The two sides acknowledged the positive contributions of the Church to the overall development of Vietnam, in the spirit of living the Gospel in the heart of the nation, and being a good Catholic is also a good citizen.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations since the 11th meeting of the Vietnam-Holy See Joint Working Group, held in Hanoi in May 2024, including regular contacts and consultations, exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, as well as the activities of the Holy See's Resident Representative in Hanoi, Archbishop Marek Zalewski.
The two sides stressed the importance of continuing to promote bilateral relations through high-level delegation exchanges, and agreed to continue holding regular meetings of the Joint Working Group.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of friendship, trust and mutual respect.
On the occasion of the visit to the Vatican, the Vietnamese delegation received Pope Leo XIV, and paid courtesy calls on the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs , Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
