On September 11, within the framework of a working trip to Italy, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang had a working session with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Maria Tripodi.

Pleased to meet Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi again after the January 2025 Political Consultation meeting, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highly appreciated the positive developments in the Vietnam-Italy relationship since the recent meeting and suggested that the two Foreign Ministries continue to coordinate closely in their coordinating roles to enhance extensive and effective cooperation, including organizing delegation exchanges at all levels, promoting cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, and actively implementing documents and agreements signed by both sides.

Sharing the view that the two countries still have much potential and room to further strengthen cooperation, especially in the fields of economics, trade and investment, Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi highly appreciated the strong development and stability of Vietnam's economy.

Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi affirmed that Vietnam is Italy's leading important partner in ASEAN and will promote Vietnam-EU relations, as well as support Vietnam in ensuring product standards to participate in the EU market in a sustainable manner.

The two sides agreed to make the most of opportunities from the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), striving to soon achieve the goal of doubling bilateral trade in the coming years; becoming each other's gateway for goods from the two countries to penetrate the EU and ASEAN markets.

Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi agreed with Vietnam's proposal to urge EU countries to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and to lobby the European Council EC to remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highly appreciated the recent working trip of Deputy Minister of Enterprise and Italian Products Valentino Valentini (September 4) and the successful organization of the Vietnam-Italy Business Forum in Hanoi with the participation of 200 Vietnamese enterprises and more than 50 Italian enterprises, demonstrating the great potential and demand from the business communities of both countries in implementing trade and investment promotion activities.

Deputy Minister Maria Tripodi thanked and welcomed Vietnam's continued extension of visa exemption for Italian citizens, as well as Vietnam Airlines' opening of a direct flight from Hanoi to Milan, contributing to enhancing cooperation in tourism, culture, people-to-people exchange and tightening the friendship between the two countries.

The two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing to continue close coordination and mutual support at international forums, especially at the United Nations, ASEAN and the EU.

Regarding international and regional issues, including the East Sea, the two sides emphasized the role and importance of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), in resolving disputes by peaceful means, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of aviation and navigation in the region.
