Vietnam Airlines increases flight frequency to Con Dao

VnExpressVnExpress18/03/2024

Vietnam Airlines increases flight frequency to Con Dao by 50% as Bamboo Airways is about to stop operating this route from April.

Vietnam Airlines said it has increased the frequency of flights to Con Dao to meet the increasing travel demand of passengers.

Accordingly, the airline will operate an average of 26-30 flights daily between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao. Compared to last month, Vietnam Airlines' flight frequency to Con Dao increased by nearly 50%. This route is currently operated by the airline using ATR-72 aircraft.

Vietnam Airlines increases flights to Con Dao as Bamboo Airways is about to stop operating routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to this airport from April after returning its entire Embraer fleet.

Thus, the upcoming Con Dao route will only be operated by Vietnam Airlines and its subsidiary Vasco with departure points from Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho - similar to the period before Bamboo Airways joined in 2019. Currently, round-trip tickets of Vietnam Airlines and Vasco for the Ho Chi Minh City/Can Tho - Con Dao route start from 3.6 million VND.

Last year, air transport accounted for about 72% of the total number of visitors to Con Dao. Currently, to get to Con Dao, in addition to air travel, visitors can take a speedboat from Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Soc Trang, and Can Tho.

In early March, Con Dao district leaders also proposed that Vietnam Airlines increase flights because passengers had difficulty buying tickets. At the same time, Con Dao also wanted Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet to study operating routes from Hanoi after Bamboo Airways stopped flying.

Con Dao Airport currently only receives a maximum of 33 flights by ATR-72 or equivalent aircraft from 6am to 6pm daily due to its short runway and lack of night lighting. In the near future, if upgraded, this airport will be able to receive large aircraft such as A320/A321 or equivalent.
