In the final match of the 3rd qualifying round, two Vietnamese players, Dao Van Ly and Thon Viet Hoang Minh, won convincingly. 3/4 Vietnamese players on the field today (November 6) got tickets to the 4th qualifying round (final) of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024.
Van Ly makes an impressive comeback at the international billiards playground
In his opening match at the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024, Dao Van Ly won a dramatic victory over Ataberk Cerkez (Türkiye) with a score of 35-33, after 32 rounds. In the decisive match for the ticket to the next round in Group O against De Kok (Netherlands), Van Ly played brilliantly, continuously hitting series of big points and winning quickly.
In the 4th turn, Dao Van Ly had a series of 10 points to take a lead of 11-1 against De Kok. In the 9th turn, the Vietnamese player continued to score a "huge" series of 14 points to increase the gap to 25 points, leading 27-2. Van Ly quickly ended the match in the 12th turn, winning the final score of 35-9.
Dao Van Ly continuously scored big goals in the decisive match for a ticket to the third qualifying round.
With a record of 2 wins, Dao Van Ly won a ticket to the 4th qualifying round of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024 with the first place in Group O. It can be said that this is an impressive return of Dao Van Ly in the international arena under the system of the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB).
Hoang Minh wins
Thon Viet Hoang Minh also had a successful day in the 3rd qualifying round of the Seoul 2024 Billiards World Cup. After 24 rounds, Hoang Minh won a close 35-31 victory over a strong player from the host country, South Korea, Kim Hyung-kon (South Korea), in the first round of Group N.
With a big advantage of 1 victory, Hoang Minh played confidently in the important match against Claus Maurer (Austria). The Vietnamese player and Maurer fought very closely for most of the match. After 15 rounds, the difference was only 1 point, with Hoang Minh leading 18-17.
Thon Viet Hoang Minh entered the 4th qualifying round with the top spot in the group, winning all 2 matches.
Thón Viết Hoàng Minh played explosively in the final shots to have a spectacular sprint and win convincingly. When leading 21-19, Hoàng Minh had a series of 5 points in the 19th shot to take the lead over Claus Maurer 26-19. In the 20th shot, Hoàng Minh had another series of 9 points to end the match, winning 35-20.
Following Nguyen Hoan Tat, Thon Viet Hoang Minh and Dao Van Ly passed the third qualifying round with the top spot in the group to participate in the final qualifying round of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024. Of the four Vietnamese players competing in the third qualifying round today (November 6), Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu was the only one eliminated.
Thus, there will be 5 Vietnamese players who will appear in the 4th qualifying round of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024, taking place on November 7, namely Nguyen Hoan Tat, Thon Viet Hoang Minh, Dao Van Ly, Chiem Hong Thai and Tran Thanh Luc. Of which, Chiem Hong Thai and Tran Thanh Luc are 2 players with high positions on the UMB rankings, so they are scheduled to play from the 4th qualifying round.
In the 4th qualifying round, 36 players are divided into 12 groups (3 players each), competing in a round robin to calculate points and rank. The 12 group winners and the 3 best runners-up will qualify for the final round (round of 32) of the Seoul Billiards World Cup 2024.
