Billiards: Vietnamese player excellently wins medal at women's world championship

Vietnam's sole representative Nguyen Thi Lien (known as Lien Quynh) has excellently won the bronze medal at the 2025 World Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Championship.

The 2025 World Women's Carom Billiards 3-Cushion Championship took place in Murcia, Spain. At this arena, Lien Quynh was the only representative of Vietnamese billiards to compete. In her first time participating in the tournament, the female player born in 1998 had a commendable performance and participated in the final day of competition (September 25).

Vietnamese player lost to the champion in the semi-finals

In the semi-finals of the 2025 World Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Championship, Lien Quynh faced the world's top player Therese Klompenhouwer (Netherlands). Facing an opponent with superior skill and class, the Vietnamese representative, despite her best efforts, could not create any surprises. Lien Quynh lost 13-30 to Therese Klompenhouwer.

By stopping at the round for the 4 strongest players, Lien Quynh finished in third place, winning the world bronze medal. Lien Quynh repeated Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi's achievement at the 2024 World Women's Carom Billiards Championship. Up to now, the bronze medal is still the best achievement in the history of Vietnamese billiards at the most prestigious playground of the world women's carom billiards.

The achievement at the 2025 World Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Championship also helped Lien Quynh improve her position on the UMB women's rankings. The Gia Lai player is currently ranked 10th in the world rankings.

At the World Women's 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Championship, Therese Klompenhouwer (who beat Vietnam in the semi-finals) was crowned champion. In the final, the Dutch player defeated Kim Ha-eun (Korea) with a score of 30-25.

The prestigious world gold medal helped Therese Klompenhouwer rise to the top of the latest UMB rankings. Meanwhile, Kim Ha-eun is in second place.
