The person in the photo is excellent doctor, specialist doctor II Pham Minh Truong (62 years old), Director of Hue Eye Hospital. The person taking the photo is Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nhat, a consultant at the hospital.

On the morning of March 30, sharing the image of "a doctor napping in the hallway" that is being praised by many people on social networks, Dr. Pham Minh Truong said: That day, my colleagues and I at Hue Eye Hospital, along with Japanese ophthalmology expert - Professor Hattori Tadashi - operated on 42 patients with cataracts at A Luoi District Medical Center.

At noon, after the surgeries, I was so tired that I went out to the hallway to take a nap. My colleagues saw me and took a picture of me and posted it on social media. I didn’t expect that the image would get so much attention.

It is known that the day before the surgery, the team examined more than 500 patients at A Luoi District Medical Center. Among the patients examined, there were 42 cases of cataracts that were indicated for surgery.

Because A Luoi is remote and difficult for people to travel, the hospital decided to form a team to examine and operate locally. Before leaving, the team had to prepare for a month, working with the local health center and making plans. The team included 15 doctors, experts, equipment, machines, and medicines that went to A Luoi to serve the surgery.

"That day, we operated on 42 patients all day from morning to afternoon. All of the above patients were operated on completely free of charge," Dr. Pham Minh Truong added.

Dr. Pham Minh Truong is the first ophthalmologist in Vietnam to receive the "Eye Health Heroes - Hero in preventing blindness" award.

The Eye Health Heroes Awards are an annual award presented by the International Association for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). The awards recognize and honor individuals who have made contributions to the field of ophthalmology and are leaders in restoring sight to the community.
