7.0 IELTS can be admitted to the highest major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law

To pass the International Commercial Law program at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, candidates need to achieve IELTS 7.0 and a transcript of 9.3 points for each subject in the admission group.

On the evening of June 21, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law announced the benchmark scores for two early admission methods: Combined consideration of international language certificates and the average score of 5 semesters (except semester II of grade 12) of three subjects in the group; Admission of students from specialized schools or priority admission of Ho Chi Minh City National University using academic records based on the average score of 3 years or the average score of 3 subjects in the admission group in 5 semesters.

Accordingly, with the method of considering a combination of academic records and IELTS (or TOEFL), the International Commercial Law major has the highest standard score. Specifically, if a candidate has an average academic record score of 22.5, he/she must have an IELTS score of 7.5 to be admitted, if the academic record score is 28, he/she only needs an IELTS score of 7.0. The calculation method for the other two majors, English Language and Administration - Law, is similar, depending on whether the academic record score is 22.5 or 24.5, the IELTS score is 6.5 or 6.0.

Currently, the admission method combining IELTS with academic records is applied by many universities. According to records, candidates with IELTS 6.5 will mostly be admitted by this method. The number of majors requiring IELTS certificate above 7.0 is very rare.

With the priority admission method for students based on academic records, the standard score for the International Commercial Law major is also the highest, 28 and 24.5 points respectively depending on the average score of the three-year academic records or the average score of three subjects in the group in 5 semesters.

The University of Law notes that this is only the qualifying result for admission. Candidates will be officially admitted when they graduate from high school; international certificates, high school transcripts with the documents that candidates have provided are verified; and register their first choice on the Ministry's information portal.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law enrolls 2,100 students. In addition to the two early admission methods, the school also considers admission based on high school graduation exam scores with 60% of the target. The standard score according to the 2022 high school graduation exam results of the school ranges from 22.5 to 28.5.
