Recently, many students have become victims of the trick of "doing online tasks" and "making money easily through the application". Initially, the subject performed a few small operations so that students could receive a small amount of money to gain trust. But when transferring a large amount of money to "upgrade the account", the entire amount disappeared, in some cases the loss amounted to hundreds of millions of dong, even billions of dong.
In addition, many students also fall into the "emotional trap" when bad guys approach them, pretend to care, then exploit their personal information to threaten and blackmail them. Student Khong Phuong Thuy (2nd year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology) shared: "I deposited money to buy goods online, but after transferring the money, the seller immediately locked the transaction account." Phuong Thuy's case is not an isolated one but is also an unfortunate experience of many other students.
Colonel, Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan, Director of the Training Center, Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05), Ministry of Public Security said: Fraudulent methods on the internet are extremely diverse and increasingly sophisticated, preying on greed and fear, the need for extra work or emotional immaturity.
Therefore, students need to be alert, practice information verification skills, not panic in the face of threats, not let greed dominate, and know how to put trust in the right place, know how to accept things calmly, have rules for acceptance and always remember that they are not alone. There are authorities and schools to accompany and support, which is an important "shield" to help students prevent and not become victims of fraud.

From the school's perspective, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thanh Huyen, Head of Student Affairs, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, shared: "Although the school regularly warns on the website, email, fanpage and invites the police to discuss and equip students with knowledge on risk prevention, many students are still not vigilant. Many new students have been taken advantage of, threatened, and had their money stolen by bad guys.
Therefore, students need to practice courage, stay calm, not be afraid of baseless threats and immediately contact the school or the nearest police station for timely support. The Student Affairs Department is always committed to supporting students 24/7.
Together with Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi Open University has also implemented many practical activities to improve digital skills and self-protection awareness for students. Head of the school's Student Affairs Department, Master Luong Tuan Long, said: The school always identifies digital skills education and information security as important content in student support work.
Through the first-term civic activities, propaganda seminars in collaboration with the Hanoi City Police, soft skills workshops and activities of the Youth Union - Student Association, students are equipped with knowledge to identify scams, methods to secure personal information, and skills to respond to unusual situations.
Upon receiving feedback from students, the school will promptly approach, grasp the situation, advise, and stabilize the psychology of students; at the same time, coordinate with families and authorities to take measures to intervene and protect the legitimate rights of students. The Student Affairs Office is the direct contact to receive all information via email, phone and at the office. "We are committed to always listening, accompanying and handling quickly, not letting students fall into a state of loneliness when facing risks in cyberspace", Master Luong Tuan Long emphasized.
According to experts, to protect students, there needs to be cooperation from schools, families and organizations. Preventing fraud on the internet is not only the responsibility of the authorities, but first and foremost the self-protection awareness of each student.
