Frost is a phenomenon when water vapor rises, meets cold air on the surface and condenses into tiny ice particles. Frost usually appears from late November to the first half of February of the following year. But most often in December and January. However, in the high mountains above 2,000 m, in the eastern area of Hoang Lien Son mountain range, there are years when the cold is deep and lasts until the end of February and the beginning of March, frost still occurs.
In terms of cause, frost occurs when the ground temperature drops to 0 degrees Celsius, while the air temperature is still above 0 degrees Celsius.
Frost is a phenomenon that occurs on a cold night in puddles or pots of water left outdoors, forming a layer of ice floating on the surface called frost.
Frost usually forms around midnight to early morning, when the ground cools the most. Water vapor in the layer of air close to the ground in contact with the cold surface cools rapidly, condenses and crystallizes.
The favorable conditions for frost formation are that the sky must be clear at night, with light or calm winds leading to large ground radiation. During the day, frost usually occurs around midnight and lasts until 7-8am the next day, in higher areas it lasts until 8-9am. It only melts when the sun is high in the sky.
