Typhoon Bebinca ravages the Philippines, at least 6 people dead

On September 15, the Philippine government announced that storm Bebinca had killed at least 6 people and left 2 missing in the country.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said four people were killed in Bangsamoro in the autonomous region in Muslim Mindanao and two were killed in the Zamboanga peninsula in the southern Philippines.

Meanwhile, one person is missing in the Zamboanga peninsula and one is missing in the Western Visayas region of the central Philippines.

According to the NDRRMC, Bebinca – the sixth typhoon to hit the Philippines this year – has affected more than 200,000 people in nearly 300 villages. Nearly 14,000 people have been evacuated to government shelters. In addition, the storm has also caused extensive damage to the country’s infrastructure.

By the afternoon of September 14, storm Bebinca had moved out of the Philippines but continued to bring heavy rain due to the strengthening southwest monsoon.

An average of 20 typhoons hit the Philippines each year, causing severe flooding and landslides. There are also many other extreme natural disasters that cause heavy casualties and devastation to crops and property.
