Speaking at the celebration of China's 76th National Day in Manila, Philippine Foreign Undersecretary Maria Theresa Dizon-de Vega spoke of the two countries' responsibility to peacefully resolve their differences on the basis of sovereign equality.

The DFA has established a bilateral consultation mechanism with China on the South China Sea, facilitating more candid discussions and reducing tensions in maritime activities.

The two sides also restored the "joint consular consultation" mechanism in July to strengthen coordination in protecting citizens.

The Inquirer quoted Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian as saying that the two sides have been working to handle maritime disputes and differences through diplomatic channels.
