The National Museum of Chinese History attended the International Forum on the occasion of International Museum Day on May 18 at the Xi'an Datang Xi'an Museum, Xi'an, China

On the occasion of International Museum Day on May 18, the International Forum themed “The Future of Museums in a Rapidly Changing Society” took place from May 17 to May 18, 2025, at the Xishi Datang Museum in Xi’an, China – the only private museum in the country built on the Xishi site of the Tang Dynasty city of Chang’an. This event was hosted by the Xi’an Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, jointly organized by the People’s Government of Lianhu District, Xi’an City, Xi’an Datang Museum and the Silk Road International Museum Friendship Alliance.

The event was attended by Xi'an Museum, Xi'an Museum of the Great Tang Dynasty, and representatives from the Afrasiab Samarkand National Museum (Uzbekistan), the Central National Museum of Kazakhstan, the National Museum of Vietnamese History, the Liechtenstein National Museum, the China-Sweden Bridge Friendship Association, the Chinese Museum in Malaysia, the National Museum of Cambodia... The members jointly initiated the " Declaration on the future of museums in a rapidly changing society" .

 

Representatives of member countries attended the launch of the museum initiative.

The Declaration calls on all organizations and individuals directly or indirectly involved in museum operations, to strengthen regional exchanges and cooperation between museums, to promote cultural and technological integration innovation, to arouse the exchange vitality of the younger generation, to empower education to activate economic dynamism, and to build cultural centers to promote sustainable urban development.

At the Forum “The Future of Museums in a Rapidly Changing Society” , experts and scholars in the field of culture and museums from various countries discussed and shared about the role of museums in contemporary society and sustainable development. The Forum emphasized the important contributions of museums in protecting, maintaining and disseminating cultural heritage, social and economic development, as well as enhancing education . Representing the Vietnam National Museum of History, Ms. Bui Thi Hang - Deputy Head of the Department of Communications and External Affairs; Ms. Doan Thu Hien, officer of the Department of Communications and External Affairs attended and gave a report at the Forum.

On the same day, the Xishi Datang Museum also officially opened a series of activities to celebrate its 15th anniversary, including the exhibition: "The Beauty of Harmony - Exhibition of Museum Culture of China and Neighboring Countries" .

The theme of this year's International Museum Day, May 18, aims to emphasize that in a rapidly changing society, museums - as connectors, innovators and preservers of cultural identity - need to maintain core values ​​while constantly innovating, proactively responding to opportunities and challenges, and accompanying the development of society.
